I have short fat fingers, so a closed bridge hasn't always been my favored option. I adopted the Snooker Player style of playing some years ago. Chin on the Cue,(same way EVERY time) open bridge, Sight it like a Rifle. I think Snooker Players are the best pure Cue Artist in the world.
I've lived in the Philippines off and on for nearly 30 yrs--I've found a way to use a closed bridge, everyone does here. But when I can stretch out and lay my arm on the table, I'll choose an open bridge every-time, unless I'm using "heavy" left/right spin. High/low doesn't seem to matter.
With that said, Irving Crane would keep his chin 3 inches above his cue??? More than one way to skin a cat.
