Cue Photos

,,,,or you can buy flourescent balanced bulbs with a high cri index(anything over 90). these bulbs give you the best spectrum of color.

my problem with shooting outdoors is you can't control it, and you're left with dealing with reflection.

indoor solutions.............
...solux
...ge chroma50
...sylvania designer 5000

if you get any balanced, high cri index light, you won't have to deal with manual WB, and a 40" flourescent ge or sylvania costs $5-10

but really, a manual WB is just fine. most of the time you see your cue in everything other than balanced light anyway, so you wouldn't know what was balanced even if it hit you on the head:):):)

Hey all,

I would like your opinions on how good cue photos should be, currently my equipment is as follows:

Canon 300D DSLR
28-135mm, 50mm
Tripod

Will be looking to add some more equipment like a flash and a 24mm macro lens. Any other goodies to suggest?

some samples of my work are attached :) Please feel free to look at them and give me your honest opinions, would love to hear them. Thanks!

I can't seem to find it. Is it here on this board or somewhere out there?

yes. google is good at stuff like this and there's no JWetree. but you have all the info you need already.

so far I've realised all the stuff we've talked about is about shooting in a controlled environment (lighting, temp etc.) it has been covered very well and alot of it has really helped me. Thanks! :)

i've got to do some shoots in the next few weeks at various poolhalls and am wondering, what advice can you give me?

i personally prefer black and white. it's more gritty and apt for pool rooms.

the camera is not as adaptive to the range of darks to lights as the human eye. when the eye looks at a poolroom it can see all the table lights and varying shades of darks in the background. the camera can't do this. if you expose for the table light, everything else will go black. if you expose for the room, the tables will go bleach white. that's why when you see lots of table shots, the light on top of the players' heads look like a glaring arc.

1...make use of your manual wb. you will need a white sheet of paper.
2...glare is going to be a problem always. if THE ROOM is well lit, try shooting cues on a table WITHOUT turning the table lights on.

these are some I did last night, editted today. Let me know what you think? May have overprocessed them.

good for room lighting. get some macros. it's easier to eliminate reflection when you're dealing with smaller areas, bottom pic being a good example. when you get close, show pics of every section of the cue.

Pics seem to be getting better. I wouldnt think suede would be the most durable material for a case. How does it hold up?

thanks!

I am not certain. I feel myself that leather and other exotics hold up better than suede.

But for a case that is 5 years old, it was certainly in a far better condition than a one i've seen that is 3 years old.

Here's some for today! Let me know what you think! :)
