cue points question

I love playing pool but I'm not very knowledgeable about the cues. I saw someone is selling a cue and they say:

The cue has an ebony forearm, 8 holly points recut with 8 more tulipwood points, for a total of 16 points and a tulipwood butt sleeve.

What do points mean? I see someone else is selling a cue with 6 points?

Thanks in advance!

Points are the long inlaid parts in between the wrap and joint on a cue. That section is referred to as the Forearm. So if it is a Six Point cue, that simply means there are six of those pointed inlays going around the cue. They can be sharp triangler points or fancy shaped longer inlays.
