Schmelke, you won't regret it. Here's the bumperless they made for me...

Love the classic schon look and I have played with Gina's, Shrager's, Heublers, you name it! as far as production cues Tiger makes a great cue with an awsome choice of Shafts, I play with a Tiger Pro-X with an Onyx tip, right now I'm shooting with a J-Line OB Butt, made by Joss.

A New Meucci with a red dot shaft would most likely be just as whippy as the old Meucci. The red dot shaft is simply normal maple with a dot that shows when the left right stiffness of the shaft is even when it is up. A black dot shaft is laminated maple and is very stiff. I wish you were local and could come try one of mine, I think my cues play pretty good. But of course I am very biased. 
It's also about owning a beautiful cue. Pride of ownership matters.

Having quality equipment matters .... Period....it is not bs....a baseball player will field the ball better with quality gloves that are made for the same, a hunter will shoot better with quality firearms that are made for the same......and the list goes on. Having what one is comfortable with enhances confidence. A quality cue with a shaft that fits one's finger length and a tip that is shaped properly with the type hit that one likes oromotes confidence and enhances ability. If that were not true, we would all play with 15 year old one piece house cues with flat tips. End of story

Agreed on Lucasi...
I still have an old Meucci Original... I'll say this... once you get used to that hit, it's hard to just go to something else. The old Originals are way better quality that the new ones, IMO.
Try to find an old Original ! They're around... you might find the weight you like, and feel like you're 'home' again.

Another vote for Schmelke...and it's 100% American made too! 20 years ago I spent the day at the Schmelke factory, in Rice Lake WI...bringing 18 junior players (including Sarah Rousey 
...a precoscious and talented 12 yr old!) with me, along with Mark Wilson and Jerry Briesath! What a treat that was. We got to see every one of the 100 steps that go into every Schmelke cue. I became a fan that day, and remain so 20 years later! :thumbup:

Another vote for Schmelke. You can have a sneaky custom built for under $200 with whatever size specs etc you want. They offer a few different joints, several wood types, and combinations etc. If you do go this route, I recommend a bocote or purpleheart prong into birdseye maple. Great feeling combination, and looks nice too.
Best value in American made cues right now IMHO.
This is true! 30 years ago Bob Meucci had all the top players "on staff", and did an experiment with several of them, where he duct taped several cues, and none of the players (who all played with Meuccis) could tell what was what on the unknown cues.

If you like the old Meucci's you might just want to stick with those, one would be easy enough to find. However, if you are looking for an alternative, look at a Dominick cue. The Ultra Pete or Sweet 16, either of those with the Dominick HG shaft wouldn't disappoint. He'll make it the way (and weight) you want.
I too came back recently after a 20 year absence. I also had (still do) a meucci that I loved. I bought a predator shaft and found I adjusted very quickly to it. I alternated for a bit between my original shaft and the predator and found that I was more consistent with the pred.
To my mind that nicely captures exactly what the "radial consistency" aspect of the Predator is meant to accomplish.
