I own a Kevin Varney Break Jump cue - it is a four point sneaky pete style cue which I think was made from a full splice house cue blank.
This cue has a 3/8x10 phenolic flat faced joint. Don't know what the ferrule/tip combination is.
a. Finish and fit - Finish is fine I'd say an 8
b. Taper - A little thick but the cue breaks great and jumps phenomenal. 10.
c. Shaft / Butt diameter - Normal. Has Kevin's long jump handle which actually works great even for close up jump shots.
d. Materials used for construction - I think that the butt at least was from a house cue, it's fine, four points slighty uneven but looks good anyway. Shaft is fine - good quality. 8
e. Playability - Jump cue - Jumps almost as good as any jump cue out there. Little tougher on the very close jump shots due to the longer handle but for anything a ball's width away it's great. 9.
Playability - Break cue - Works great here too. I think that the stiffer taper plays a part. I am not a big advocate of specialized "break" cues because I think that the break is more technique and less cue but I do know that some cues are "better" than others. This one is pretty good - 7.5
I didn't get this from Kevin. So no comments on his service.
Kevin also built a shaft for one of my Scruggs and it was as good as the original shaft from Scruggs. That's a pretty good feat in my book. Kevin can play a little so he understands the "hit" the way a player understands it.
