Cue shaft playability differences

And it also why I quit playing with an LD shaft entirely and went back to Natural Maple.

I want my squirt to be predictable, not so finite it's hard to measure it.

I play with 2 shafts and really light butt that is nothing but a piece of wood with a 3/8 x 10 pin in it.
Plays better than anything I've ever played with. Total weight 15.66 ounces. My cue ball is on a string
and much better than when I played with 19 or 18 ounce cues. Everyone should give this a go and
see for themselves. The cloth we play on today is fine and cue ball rolls forever. No reason not to go lighter.
After I got my TS cue, it immediately dawned on me I should have switched to lighter cues long ago.
My first custom cue I ordered was a Runde Schon in 1984. It is a gorgeous cue but it weighs a ton.

The cue butt has a large diameter butt like most cues at that time and weighs 20.35 ozs. It plays
great, or so I believed for two decades until I played with a lighter weight, flat ivory radial pin TS cue.

I was instantly sold within 15 mins and it was the reason all the cues in my case have similar specs.
My cue case is a 6x12 and all the cues within are flat faced ivory big pin designs weighing 18.5 ozs.
The cue butts & shafts are the same diameter and similar weights (14.5 oz. butts and 4 oz cue shafts).

OMG, after playing with a piloted steel joint Schon cue that was nearly 2 ozs. heavier than any of the
cues in my case, it was like I discovered how to play a musical instrument I had previously struggled
learning & mastering. All of a sudden my cue turned into making melodic sounds & I was playing music.

I squandered so many years trying to play better when all along, I was playing with a cue I loved but was
heavier than necessary. After finding my sweet spot for pool cue specs, it became the standard for me.
If I were to order another cue built, it would absolutely have the same specs as the cues in my 6x12 case.

There’s been probably 60-70 players that have tried my Scruggs. I have a waiting list of friends that want to
buy it and price was never an issue. I can make a very handsome profit if I decided to sell it. But I couldn’t
part with it except through my estate. It otherwise seems like such a rare cue that I could never replace it.
Not a single person that’s tried my Scruggs hasn’t fallen immediately in love with the way it played for them.

Why? It is a flat faced ivory Scruggs radial pin custom cue weighing 18.4 ozs.; my other cues are 18.5 ozs.

And another revelation happened for me 2 years ago. I started playing with Kielwood shafts. Wow…..so much
better than original maple shafts as as long as you can duplicate the weight of the original maple shafts. For
me it became a challenge to find cue makers that could build a KW shaft that wasn’t cored, didn’t have any
weight added via inserts and was just solid wood and had to be 3.8 to 4.2 ozs. with a targeted weight of 4 ozs.

It took me months to find the right cue makers after being told by several what I wanted built couldn’t be done.

Well, there are 4 KW shafts in my cue case that proved some cue makers are lazy or aren’t as talented as some
think. After matching a KW shaft with my TS cue, it now plays like a Stradivarius where before it was just a fiddle.
The reality is there’s a weight proportionality between both halves of a 2 piece cue. Find out what works best for you.

Frosty…..you can always put me on ignore because I ain’t changing at this stage of life. Verbose…..loquacious……sure but poignant and salient are also applicable. So like I suggested, put me on ignore or don’t bother reading but you are as dumb as a rock to think anything you might opine could influence me in any way…...Obladi Oblada. It’s your choice.

Do you even realize how many times you’ve told the stories about your cues, your search for KW shafts, the California ivory ban? Verbose, loquacious? How about full of yourself? You remind me of an individual I used to know, he always liked to say, “my favorite things I like to talk about are me and my money”, at least he was self aware.

On the other hand, smaller squirt estimates mean smaller errors.

It has long been apparent that I am in the minority. But I’ve never player with an LD or CF shaft that made be think I need to change and play with them instead of my traditional maple shafts. I even bought a 314-2 shaft when it was new so I could spend more time with it. But I’ve never felt improvements in hit, predictability, or reproducibility with these “newer” shaft technologies (not so new any longer). I play OK with my 314-2. It doesn’t take me long to adjust to its feel.

I have days when I can’t miss anything and days when I’m embarrassed even when playing alone. IMO, the problem is not from my cues.

Your choice…….ignore me, harass me, criticize me but your opinion is absolutely meaningless and about as important as the shit picked up at a dog park. It matters not a bit to me but even dogs are entitled to enjoy bowel releases so go for it.
Anyway, if the Forum’s readers don’t enjoy or actually resent my posts apparently like you, than just stop reading them.

I’m not trying to do anything to you Matt, I just wonder if you’re aware of that which it is that you do.

You go into threads continually on any given topic and somehow find a way to segue into telling us all for the upteenth time about your TS, Bob Owen or Runde cues, or how you’re so brilliant you proved all the cue makers wrong about KW shafts, or that you have 3 sets of Centennials. Or you’d buy this cue if it wasn’t for the ivory ban in CA. Or like you just did in the Sales section where there’s a thread with a guy is selling handmade wooden racks, and you pontificate about how you would buy 1 of you didn’t already have a Delta Elite.

You don’t seem a bad guy, have clearly done well for yourself, as many of us have. But you derail threads by turning them into yet another post about you, and the stories of your cues, racks, balls, etc. It might be interesting if you hadn’t already done it a million times before.

Not trying to break your balls, just wonder if you’re that self absorbed or if you just don’t realize it. It’s mind boggling.

Do you sincerely think that a opinion, i.e., suggestion, posted by someone I do not know a thing about, have never met nor spoken with, would assuage or encourage me to change or abandon whom I am as a person, my thoughts, opinions, beliefs, inclinations or anything whatsoever?

I suppose it might be possible if the individual attempting to do that was a sexy woman and I actually paid close attention and was open to embracing their comments. But from a stranger with zero association, and another guy too, it’s not likely and I’ll dismiss it because it is really inconsequential. It’s like taking advice from a stranger. You have to be pretty stupid and deserve whatever fate awaits you. However, that doesn’t imply always ignoring it either. What matters is how important is it and whether the other person has credulity. On both of those points you come up short.

Like Popeye, I am what I am. I do not pretend to be what I am not. You can accept or reject me but regardless, I’m not
reluctant to be the only oak tree in a forest of only pine trees. Have you ever received a like recently on a post you composed a couple of years ago? Gosh, I get them weekly and it tells me that someone either hadn’t previously read it or cared enough to click like. Sure, others may respond with a reply while the thread or posted reply is recent but years later tells me what I wrote was favorably viewed. I suppose that might not happen much for you or maybe it does?

You write for others to read, not for yourself. So if my penchant to be redundant or excessive troubles you, just ignore
me like I have done to 1/2 dozen other Azers so I never get to see what they write. I don’t miss seeing their comments and I sure as hell couldn’t give a damn what they had to write. It’s why I stopped posting in NPR. People aren’t going to
change because of anything anyone ever could post on this website. So I choose to just avoid assholes and maybe you should emulate my approach. Maybe look at it this way….put me on ignore……..I’ll stop being a nuisance or distraction.

BTW, the seller of the wood racks wasn’t bothered by my post, the Mods weren’t concerned, the post was a compliment about the item’s appearance and quality but because it came from me, you have a clear recollection.

I almost get the feeling I have a Az stalker that has a crush on me but is too blind to see it. There’s been a lot of TV shows that used this as a theme for an episode and the stalker always get the short end of the stick in the end.

Start a poll……I’ll abide by it…….I can stop visiting the Forum……..if I annoy folks, I’ll just go away but I am not going to change whom I am, what I believe or what I post. Nonetheless, I will concede that presentation always matters.
