Best Cue?

I wouldn't say there is a "Best Cue" out there. It really comes down to personal preference.

Tip diameter - beginner to mid level players I'd recommend sticking close to 13mm
Weight - depends on how you shoot. If you shoot soft then try heavier cue, if you shoot hard then try a lighter cue.
Joint - try several different cues with different joints to get the 'feel' of them

Low-deflection shaft - be aware of how much a cue's deflection/squirt is. Depending on how you shoot some players prefer low deflection and others don't. I've played too long with low deflection and I can't go back.

Price range - your budget has a lot to do with it too. If you are on a tight budget but want the best playing cue for your money remember this - a production cue is going to play about the same no matter which model you get within the line - Example: a $400 Schon will play the same as their $1600 Schon's. A $200 Lucasi will play the same as a $600 Lucasi. The more you pay within a line of cues is just for looks.

Wrap - use to only be 3 main options (Irish Linen, wrapless, leather) but now you've got several companies with different Sport grips that are rubber or memory foam for extra grip. Other companies are doing imitation leather to give that feel at a cheaper price. Again this is personal preference.

My advice is find your price range and then try to shoot with as many brands of cues in that price range. Find what you like the feel of before making your decision. If your investing a good bit of money into a cue make sure that you absolutely love the way the cue looks and plays.

joss cue is what you should buy best bang for your buck

if this is your first cue I would go with a joss east cue they play really well you can by one new or used I sub jest by it used either off here or ebay you just can't go wrong with them I do sub jest you go with one with points on the forarm and the lower but I only sub jest this so your cue hold it value if you every go to sell it... I have a friend that bough a meucci cue sneaky pete two weeks ago he paid 260 for it but he desided he didn't like it and now found out the most he can get for it is 120 because it was plain jane

Are there mechanical bridges where you play? The answer makes a difference for what you should get.

I'll have to guess that when you go to pick out a cue off the wall you look for a certain weight first then the tip condition. Go with that weight.

If you happen to have a certain favorite off the wall cue then get it weighed to be sure and measure the tip dia. If you can't have that done then trust the weight marking and start with a 13mm tip. It's pretty much standard and there's reasons for that. 12.5mm and 12.75mm are also common and fine. In the 70's 14mm was popular. Good luck finding one. You don't need that or a very small tip. Dip diameter doesn't add spin. It won't subtract either unless you have a very large tip like 19mm:eek: and that would only effect ability to draw I'd think.

Main thing is jump in with what you can afford, then you will be playing with the same tool every game eliminating that variance. As you gain more knowledge you can always change, but I'd suggest you stick with your choice for a couple years before the first change comes.

Tip shape is nickel or dime. Flat is asking for trouble.
