Cue tester wanted

...The Joe Baker cue review, as promised!

First of all, the cue is very clean looking. It has a nicely figured ebony points into a curly maple forearm. The cue has a synthetic LBM ferrule that was just over 13mm. Actual weight is 18.7 oz. The wrap is a white/green speck linen. It has a true S/P joint, which is flat faced and wood to wood. The pin is a 3/8-10. The buttcap appears to be ABS with either a push in or screw in black bumper (I haven't removed it yet). The tip is a medium Triangle. The cue rolls straight both together and apart. It is signed between the points.

The cue has a balance point approximately two inches above the wrap, or 18 1/2" from the end of the buttcap. The handle is very slim compared to other cues I've played with. This makes for a weight forward cue, which I personally like. Although hit is very subjective, the cue has a "soft" feel to it. It is not whippy in any respect and has a nice solid sound when it contacts the cue ball. I was able to move the cue ball around the table very easily. The cue has a nice, long taper on the shaft, which I found to be perfect for my game. Miscues were very rare.

Even though this is my first Baker cue, I get the feeling that it is very representative of a quality maker. I actually had a local player ask me what the cue had a "two piece" shaft for. Upon examination, the finished part of the shaft and the sanded area were literally masked off before spraying the finish leaving a clean line that this gentleman thought was a joint! The wrap is nicely applied. It isn't highly pressed, but isn't at all rough. I've owned many sneaky Petes over the years and the Baker would fit in with some of the best. It feels and hits like an excellent custom cue! The only suggestion I might make would be to have sharper points, like has already been mentioned, but having the points CNC'd did make for completely even points, which seem to be a rarity on many S/P's.

Thanks for the opportunity to review this cue! I'm looking forward to seeing more Bakers on the market...

Best regards,

Steve
