Cue Tip Gone Wrong

About a week ago I asked my local hall to install a tip for me. They said it would take almost a week. So I installed a Talisman Tip that I had gotten when I bought a Talisman cue case.

Since putting on the tip I haven't been able to pocket anything especially a cue shot. Today I'm shhoting some practice balls and making all kinds of adjustments with no luck. The owner of the hall (different from my home hall) walks by and says "do you hear anything wrong with the hit" I told him my problems and he looks at the tip. It was delaminating, the tip was dryrotted. He put a new LePro tip on and now my game is back to normal.

He told me it is not unusual to get dryrotted tips. You just have to be careful of what you install. Just thought I would pass this on so you guys would be on the lookout when having a tip changed.
 
man i hear u , i had a tiger installed and it was crooked and shroomed , i think i could of done better , and it did throw my game off,but now i kno better but in ure case how can the guy tell if its a bad tip? maybe not his fault but live and learn
 
The fellow who owns the hall is Jose Garcia in Vineland, NJ on Landis Ave. He is a pro and knows of what he speaks. He looked at the tip and shosed me that the layers were coming apart. He installed a new tip and 20 minutes later I was playing again.

With reference to Jose's Q Billiard's - He keeps a very nice room and is very helpful and an easy guy to deal with. He is a pro and knows what to look for.
 
Heard of the place

I have heard of the place and have not been there. What are the people like? Are there some good shooters that go there?

It sounds like the layers of your tip came apart. Could have been weak glue or a bad install.

As far as "Dryrotting", I have never heard of such a thing with cue tips. That sounds like some that would come from age, but I have taken tips that are 10 years old, installed and used them with no issue. That's a new one.

I can't argue the chemistry in the tip makeup. The Talisman tip is leather and layered. The layers were coming apart. If you rubbed your finger over the side of the tip you could see the layers open up like an accordian.

As far as the glue goes - I don't know how a layered tip is put together but I would have to guess that each layer is glued. But as stated above the tip looked like an accordian opening up when you rubbed your finger up the side of the tip.
