Cue tip issue

I seem to have an issue with my new Lucasi L-EL. I am new to the game but I still think that this is not normal. Every couple of hours of play, the tip of my cue gets "bald" on the sides. Usually not the centre, just the sides. It can't hold chalk well.

I use the cuetech bowtie to roughen it up. Don't really know what this means, but the cue is supposed to come with triangle tip or Tiger Everest Layered. I don't really have a way to check that out.

May just be a bad tip. I usually keep several squares of 80 grit sandpaper in my case and lightly scuff with that when needed. If that doesn't work, I would replace the tip. Might try a Moori III or the new Moori V.

Contrary to what you may think, you probably hit the cue ball with the center of your tip far less often than you imagine.

Yeah, I figured that much :) but I was a bit surprised by how often I need to roughen it up...

Buddys' Griffin and Poison don't get bald after all this time, but mine does. Maybe the way I hit...

GConn...Contrary to popular opinion, you don't have to rough up your tip, after the first time you do it prepare the tip for play. I haven't scuffed, sanded, picked or done anything else to my tip for years...and I break with my playing cue as well. The chalk is abrasive, and will work fine, even on what appears to be a smooth tip. Miscues happen more with a poor stroke, than not enough chalk.
