Cue Tips and Humidity?

I've noticed that the tips on all my cues get hard after about a week of shooting with them. Could it be the humidity on the patio where the table is getting into them causing it? Thank you. Johnnyt

Have you compared it to the cues you haven't shot with? Wouldnt high humidity make the leather more pliable and soft?

I've had all seven of them out there. I was thinking the humidity making the tips damp on real humid days might be like wetting the side of your tip to stop mushrooming. All I know is I'm sick of changing tips everytime I turn around. Johnnyt

Kamui Blacks are supposed to be humidity resistant. I don't know if they could stand up to the patio treatment but it might be worth a try. Now if you're already using the black, I've got nothing more to say.

I'm using the black Kamui now since my city is surrounded by water and it's naturally hot and humid. Where you live can't be much better.

Thanks Joey. I give one a try. Johnnyt

i was watching Allison fisher at the china 9 ball open a week ago and i noticed a couple of times she was taking some sort of tip cover off her cue a couple of times. it seemed to be rubber. i have wondered ever since if anyone else uses this or is this something she has come up with? i can't remember if it was her break or jump cue? may be this was a way to protect from humidity?

I lived in Florida for 13 years and had no problems with a Triangle tip. It is a medium hard tip which might be too hard for you.

I believe all but one of my cues have triangles on them. They get almost like stone. Johnnyt

That's interesting .

LAck of humidity sure can cause such effect, the tip just dries and hits like a rock, literally.

I'm going to put new tips on two of them and put them back in thier cases when done playing each time. My cue rack inside the house is right inline with the A/C vent. Maybe it's drying them out and thats my problem rather than the humidity. Thank you. Johnnyt

The lady that was/is making the cue tip covers was on here a few years ago. I believe they were to keep the inside of your case clean. Johnnyt

It's a wonder that the cue tip covers don't come off when you try to pull the shafts out of your case. Just imagining here but if the tip covers are super tight, it could cause the tips to pop off after repeated use.

Just imagining here, not knocking. Does anyone have any experience with the tip covers. I am remiss in cleaning my shafts before placing them back into my case, although I do wash my hands every time I go to the john.

I believe I found the problem. I had been leaving the chalk on the table when I covered her at night. The moisture would go into the tips from the damp chalk when used the next morning. Just like making a milk dud the damp tips would get harder and harder with each shot. I also break with my players. Johnnyt
