My hands sweat alot and while playing alot of sweat gets on my wrap i recently bought a new Viking and i am worried that the sweat may damage the wrap. Do i need to be worried? If so how can i protect the wrap? Thanks.

how much you sweat is how you choose your wrap.. the wrapless crowd probably don't sweat much... the leather crowd sweat a little bit.. and the Irish linen guys like me.. probably sweat more than the rest...

unless sweat is dripping from your fingers regularly.. it is not likely that you are going to damage your cue...

Irish linen would probably be your best choice.

keep it relatively clean and have it pressed when ever you get a new tip..

Yes, this will cause problems over time to more than just your wrap. It will also introduce moisture into your case, which makes tube type cases for some in your situation not practical. You would best be served with a box type case that can be allowed to full dry out on a regular basis.

Now back to your wrap, it would be best if you had a cue that was wrap less. But, if you prefer a wrap you must have it pressed sealed frequently to stop it from deteriorating from moisture exposure. Or you can have the wrap sealed like a Meucci to protect the wrap, which in effect make the cue wrap less.

Locally, I charge $40 to replace a wrap, $30 to clean and seal a wrap like a Meucci, or $20 to Clean and repress and seal a wrap. Price will vary from location to location, but what ever you choose to do it should not be that expensive. The biggest concern is keeping the case dry, so that moisture is introduced into the cue over time, because that can be much more expensive than any of the above.

Hope this helps!

keeping the equip and hands dry

another thought about wrap selections is cork! and always carry a towel ,to keep wiping off your sweaty hand,s you won't like leather it gets slippery. relax while you play, there are sprays that seal the pores of your skin Hands)as well. I just assume the bridge hands gunk up too. mark

You should also get in the habit of washing your hands more often. This will dry your hands out a bit and eliminate some of the dampness. Sounds simple, but it works.

Having played for ten + years with leather, Zamboti, 10 years with Kischenbrock no wrap, and 15 years + with linen/Kikel, I've found the linen to be more consistent, Varner feels the same way. If you sweat and get near the final 8 you'll find the room humidity increases. At this point I found my grip was too inconsistent and definitely effected my play (slippage). I like no wrap with a break cue because I can easily prep my hand for that one shot, but because I sweat, a linen wrap cue I prefer. If the tack of my wrap decreases I add some parrafin or take a hair dryer and bleed out the existing wax to add tack. I don't Ever want my grip to slip unexpectedly, when it did I always paid a price.
