Hi folks here I go again I would like some opinions on 5/16x18 joint pin on cues, are they any good do they stay tight etc.thanks.There's an Olney tulip wood for sale I'm thinking just wondering about this joint thanks.
 
They have been using them for years. I have only seen one bent and I think the guy dropped it.

ALL WERE FINE...
If you looking at OLNEY-
HIS CUES ARE VERY WELL-MADE- I wouldn't hesitate if that's what you want
Do a search for OLNEY-
Only read positive comments about Jeffs cues...
LOOk at him on youtube-
HE CAN PLAY POOL TOO :)
 
There is nothing inherently wrong with it. It is more common on Chinese imports. But some great makers have used it as well.

I have another question what about aluminum joint pin any good thanks.

My '68 Joss is 18 thread.....the joint is original and has seen a lot of use.
,,had a Gina and a Tad....18 thread was good enough for those icons.

Aluminum joint?...I don't like the idea....even if it is hardened...
...as an insert to screw into, I think it is great...gives a softer hit.
