Cuemaker Spotlight - Jeff Olney

Just wanted to share my newest two cues with the friendly folks on this forum. I have a couple other cuemakers that I'll post on in the near future. I recently picked up a 10 pt. players cue. 5 high spliced cocobolo pts. with 5 low spliced ebony pts. into a birdseye maple forearm. The cue weighs EXACTLY 19.5oz with either shaft, and I mean exactly. Jeff takes a ton of time to insure that both shafts will play as similarly as possible. Joint is a brass 3/8-10 and I cannot feel the joint when screwed together. The shaft takes a good minute to screw down since they fit so tightly. Real precision. Ivory ferrules on both shafts with black fiber pads and med Moori tips. The cue plays great and feels wonderfully balanced and seems to float in my hands. The hit of the cue is medium-stiff in my opinion with lots of feel and the cue is DEAD straight. Need to pull out the measuring tools to detect anything other than perfect.

The break/players cue was a huge surprise. 6 points for a break cue!!! The shaft has a melamine ferrule, and the cue comes with a TAD tip which not only breaks well, but plays great too. The joint on this cue is a 5/16-18 and the shaft has a delrin insert. Once again, I cannot feel the joint when the shaft and the butt are screwed together.

Both cues have flawless Dupont clearcoat finishes. Hand buffed mirrored finishes without any scratches or flaws. Jeff takes extreme pride in his work and it really shows.

Hope my pictures do the cues justice!! They really are beautiful! Please email me at skcheng@optonline.net with any questions or comments. I'm not a dealer so I don't have any of Jeff's cues for sale, but I find Jeff incredibly easy to deal with and very reasonable with his pricing structure. One could do FAR worse in cuebuying land. I'm sure others will feel like I do if they pick up one of Jeff's cues.

Here's Jeff's website for further info:

Thanks guys!!

very nice cue. If you can post a full-length photo that would be great, I find it a little easier to visualize.

Full Length....

Unfortunately, my flash isn't strong enough for a great full length pic, but I'm located in Tenafly, which isn't far from Ft. Lee just in case a true close up view is required :)

.Hay i like the work on both of the them .Hows the hit on them ..( can u send me one so i can hit some balls with one )

The "hit" is subjective with everyone having a different preference. I think that Jeff's cues have a medium stiff, very precise and direct feel. Not quite as stiff or rigid as a Southwest, but not far off. Keep in mind that Jeff will do anything from a 5/16-18 to SS 5/16-14 to a full ivory joint. And Jeff can vary the shaft taper as desired, but I would opt for his current taper which strokes the ball nicely without too much spin. I tried a Predator 314 and much preferred the feel of Jeff's shafts.

Order one and if you don't like the cue, I'll gladly buy it from you!!

I ordered a cue from Mr Olney last September and got it around December 2004.
Being a curly maple nut, I ordered a cue with curly maple forearm and butt sleeve with a kingwood handle. I did not order any ringwork as I wanted it to be plain and simple.
When I opened up the package to take a view at my cue, I got a pleasant surprise. :)
The finish on the cue was magnificient, glass-like and the woods that Mr Olney has is simply beautiful.
I quite like the hit of the cue and I find the cue balance very much to my liking as well.

Here are the pictures of my cue. Hope you guys will like it. :)

Nice looking cue. Curly or tiger maple is always so gorgeous. I'd like to convince Mr. Olney to make me an amboyna burl and ivory handle. That would look cool!!!

Again, very nice cue, and it's nice to know another Bergen head on this board.

Where do you shoot?

I own a couple of Olney's myself. They have the cleanest hit that I have ever experience, in my opinion. Jeff is a super nice guy that makes a FANTASTIC hitting cue.
