Have you built an English pool or snooker cue before?

If so, i'd be interested in your services for a LOW COST cue for my girlfriend. Typical girl, she loves PINK. So what i'm thinking is a full splice cue but using DYMONDWOOD ---> http://www.rrpwhite.com/color%20chart.htm Using Bahama Cherrywood.

Specs as follows;

Weight:17.5oz
Length: 57inch
Tip: 8mm Blue diamond or Elkmaster.
Butt: 29.5mm
Shaft: Ash

No Butt caps, bumpers or fancy joints, just a normal English style brass joint and brass ferrule. NO butterflies, NO vaneers, NO rings.

She's just getting into pool and needs her own cue. If anyone is interested please PM me or post here.

Cheers guys,

I'm just guessing but I think you would have a hard time getting one of the few cue makers who make f/s cues wanting to run diamond wood through their saw blade nor shaper bit but even if they would I would think the finished cue would probably weigh around three pounds. Good luck in your quest.

So is this stuff really heavy? like REALLLLLY heavy?

I was thinking something like this.

I've run a simulation and have found that the Dymondwood would weigh between 8.96oz and 9.92oz. This would still leave around 8oz for the shaft and metal work.

Well, that cue is either fiber glass or carbon and is hollow or a clad, very light wood. I'm sure diamond wood is heavier than ebony. I don't have any 1.350 which is the butt size but I have some one inch and it's heavy.

I've used solidworks to determine the mass based on what Dymondwood claim to be a density of 0.67oz/in^3 to 0.75oz/in^3.

Maybe you should have an american cue built to your "specs", you might start a new trend.

After reading your figures on weights I know there is a mistake somewhere. An American butt would weigh more than your figures even if it was made with balsa wood. Are you talking about a 28.5 inch butt or like many snooker cues who's butts are only about half or a little longer that length and a very long shaft? If this is the case this would bring the weight down however, I doubt anyone who do not specifically build the long snooker shaft would have the ability to build said shaft.

i'd prefer a 12inch butt with a 45inch shaft but i'm happy to go with a 28.5inch butt and a 28.5shaft.

nothing in cuemaking is quick. usually if its quick its wrong...

When i say 'quick' i mean in comparison to a cue with 8 points, 4 vaneers, 4 complex rings and 100+ inlays.

Time is not really the issue, if it takes weeks or months i'm not TOO bothered, i just meant quick as in a simple cue.

No disrespect, but you even put the 'low cost' in caps in your post.

You might consider that not only is Dymondwood xtremely nasty to work with,
( I have a really nice 1.25 dowel, kinda rose/strawberry in color, I
intended to use for butcaps - it is still lying around 20 years later)
but you want a certain kind wich I doubt anybody on here has.

Also, it is a cue project which most would have to learn-while-doing.

Most anyone who could build your cue could spend 15% as much time
and build a sneaky pete.

Best of luck with your search

Dale

Out of curiousity, why would you not want to use a snooker cue maker in England, as I understand, there are quite a few available that are more than familiar with your required specs, and they have the machinery to make a 3/4 cue????
