Cues for kids

For those with young kids taking up pool, do you give them a special cue? ie, lighter, shorter, smaller tip? My friend has 3 daughters and a nice table at home. His oldest daughter has started shooting with him. She is currently 9 1/2 years old and about 4'2". We were wondering if it's a good idea to cut a few inches off of one of his house cues for her for now, or if it's better to just let her shoot with a "normal" cue and grow into it. How about for the younger/smaller kids?

Hello, I would recommend just buying a child's cue. They come in 42, 48 and 52 inches, along with adjustable weights of 16 to 21 oz. All the major distributes sell these cues, IE, Cue and Case, Sterling Billiards, Imperial Billiards, and Muellers Recreational Products. These cues cost between $35and $45 dollars, and they are balanced for their size. Not to mention that they play like an adult cue they are just shorter.

By doing this it will just increase the child's interest and they will want to play more. For the price and for the effect it can have it is more than worth it.

Thanks Manwon! After reading your post, I found a few options by searching for "child's cue" and "junior cue".
