I wouldn't really say that I'm collecting cues. But I just thought that I would post some pics of all the cues that I've acquired over the years.
The only cues that I've ever sold, were two Schmelkes that I sold cheap to my brother and a graphite cue-tec that I wanted to try out, but then sold (unloaded) to a league teammate
.
I purchased all of the custom cues from members here on AZBilliards, with no problems at all.
I've been lucky, that virtually every cue that I've ever bought (even the Production cues) have actually played very well.
Regardless of the price of the cues, I think that it's interesting to see a wide range of different cues that someone has purchased, to get a good idea of their individual tastes in cues.
Left to Right
1 - Ginacue
2 - Gilbert
3 - Gilbert
4 - Kikel
5 - Sirca
6 - Pechauer
7 - Nova (husband's version)
8 - Nova (wife's version)
9 - McDermott
10 - Sierra
11 - Sirca
12 - Lucasi
13 - Lucasi
14 - Viking
What I've figured out about my preferences with cues over time are:
1) I gradually figured out that I like cues that weigh about 19.5 oz.
2) I like a well-balanced cue that is not at all rear-weighted. If anything, I would like a more forwarded weighted cue -- so that when I'm jacked up -- the cue still feels balanced.
3) I like a firm-hitting cue. But mainly don't like too whippy of a shaft. I do seem to like the hit of cues with almost any type of joint...from SS joints to Ivory joints to Wood-wood joints.
4) I like Kamui tips the best. The tip seems to be what impacts the way that a cue plays to me more than the joint (if that makes sense at all).
5) All of my first cues had Irish-linen wraps. Then I tried one with a leather wrap and liked leather much better (so I bought a few cues with leather wraps)...and then I bought the ebony sneaky from Greg Sirca...and realized that I really do like the consistency of the feeling of a wrapless cue the best.
6) Since I mainly practice at home and play in different bar leagues -- my two main playing cues for my leagues will be the two Sirca cues that really play great and are wrapless. Although I do play with all cues and will take the fancier and more expensive cues to the pool hall when I go.
