Those of u that know a pro player. What is the weight of there cue?

Just curious. I currently use a 19oz but I could easily use a 17oz. I believe there’s more feel to the shot. Am I nuts?

Depends on what you like. Most are in the 18-20 range.

It's a personal thing and depends entirely on the player. You'll find a wide variety, though I doubt there is too many playing with anything heavier than 20oz. 19oz is probably the most common.

Cue ball control

I tend to have more cue ball control with the lighter cues ( or feel ). Heavier cues give you more accuracy of hit. My cue is a touch under 19, but I can play with lighter ones as well. It is really what feels best to you. I would stay with the lighter cues if you play well with them. JMO.

Ralf Souquet's Joss West cue ended up at about 19.5 oz. He spend a couple of days adjusting the weight after he first got it or so the story goes.

Im the type that it wouldnt matter what cue i played with but after awhile i know i cant play with a heavy cue. If there is a house cue that is a 15oz its the one im gonna grab for sure, 18 maybe the heaviest.

In addition to weight, balance is also a factor. You can have two cues within 1/4 oz of each other and they may have balance points off by a few inches.

Use what feels right for you, not others. I was told that in that people preferred heavier cues in the old days because the cloth was slower, so it takes more effort to move the ball around.

Since when did/does Ralf use a Joss West?? I thought his cue was made by Joss Cues, LTD.

Here is the weight of Dennis Hatch's cue that is up for auction.

* 20.4 oz with shaft

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember Mika moving up in weight as well. Last I knew he was close to 20 oz.

Mike Dechaine whacked some balls with my cue and said it was too heavy for him so my guess is, his cue is probably more in the mid to low 19's.

Corey Deuel, SVB, and Earl were all playing with heavier cues (20+ oz). I'm sure if you weighed all the pro's cues you would find the same range you would if you weighed all the AZ'ers cues. Everyone has a weight that feels good to them. The pro's are no different. I do not believe there is a "correct" weight to optimize ability in general.

pros cues

I have made cues for a bunch of pros and have never had one ask for a cue over 19.3 but I have had a couple that wanted them as low as 17.5. Most of them wanted them just under 19. Butterflycues
