I have about 15 cues in the house everything from Bill Schick SP, PFD Cue, Madden Cue, Bob Frey,Rick phillipi ,Predator 3k6, Schon STL-3,Mcdermott cues, Balabuska GB-7,Fury RP -7, and I have to tell you I shoot just as good or better with the Cuetec or Scorpion if not better !! I play with all the different weights about 19 oz to 21 oz. I think it takes alot less effort to move the cue ball around with draw, side spin top or bottom english. There has to be a reason besides big endorsements Allision Fisher(Cuetec), Johnny Archer(Scorpion) and Earl Strickland(Cuetec) shoot with these Cues. You try it? I know some people say the shafts feel terrible but I still think it makes the game alot easier. I would be curious what everyone else thinks after you have tried this test?

I would consider myself a (B) player and shoot on the Tiger Planet Pool
Tour events in the DC Metro Area.

Thanks,
Steve

Well that should save you a lot of $$$ in the future.
Just food for thought...I wonder why Earl's shaft is blue?;)

nah..... I'm hooked now on custom cues now..lol I just love the sport and collecting different Custom and production Cues..hehe

P.S. I do hear your cues are awesome!

I agree 100%.

I have 3 Black Boars, and stopped using them a couple of years ago when i stopped playing pool full time.

It would end up leaving them in the trunk for a couple of weeks a a time cause i was doing things other than pool.

So i put them away, and went back to using this cuetec housecue thing.

When i practice up, i still manage to play some pretty Jam up pool sometimes, but it's not the cue that determines if i am dead on or not, it's if i feel good and hit balls a couple of times that week, or if i don't.

How i play, really has nothing to do with the cue.

So since i had break from school for 3 weeks, i figured i'd put in some pool time and see if i couldn't get some decent action.

So about a week ago, i was putting the cue together, and the insert that goes inside of the shaft game unglued and cracked, so a piece of it was stuck on the pin, and while twisting the shaft off to discover this, the base of the shaft cracked, so that shaft is toast.

So i had to bust out my Black Boar and have been playing with that for a week, and the only thing that is hampering my play cuewise is the fact that the tip that is on the Black Boar is about 2 1/2 years old, and has turned into a rock which i hate.

So to me, i have always maintained that if it's built pretty solid, you can play well with it, and it is my experience, that cuetec for being a relatively cheap cue does the job just as good as any 3 or 4 thousand dollar cue.

It's the player pulling the trigger.

Your post got me curious, so I thought I'd check out the Cuetec website. I regularly play with Viking, which I love, but I was curious. Lots of information on their website, which I took in with an open mind, but I turned off to them big time when I read their Cue Care page. Here it is:

CUE CARE
You may use a slightly dampened soft cloth or paper towel to clean your cue. The type of cloth that is best suited is the type used to clean eyeglasses.

Use only Cuetec Hi-Tech
- to dampen your cloth or paper towel. This is available at your local Cuetec Cue dealer. It is the only product designed and formulated to clean, condition, and protect your Cuetec or other fiberglass/graphite cue. Cuetec Hi-Tech will keep that factory smooth finish and insure a smooth stroke for the life of your cue The use of any other cue care product could permanently damage your cue and possibly void the warrantee.

Do not use
- any abrasive cleaners! You will strip the finish and void the warrantee.!

Do not use
- any caustic or volatile chemicals! You will strip the finish and void the warrantee.

Do not use
- any kind of shaft slicker/smoother! You will strip the finish and void the warrantee.

If you should slightly scratch, ding, or dent the surface of a clear fiberglass clad shaft take the cue to your local authorized Cuetec Dealer who might be able to repair it for you.

If the shaft is irreparable you can purchase a new shaft with clear fiberglass cladding (available in 12 &13mm tip sizes and Regular/Extra Long lengths) at your local Cuetec Cue dealer.

In other words, "If you clean your shaft with anything other than OUR [expensive] cleaner, OR if you happen to ding your shaft, you are plain out of luck!" What a crock!

Per a reliable source Elton John gives his a handsome bonus if he can fill EJ's cavity while keeping both hands on his shoulders...

These are typical responses from guys that have been spanked(Beaten) by people using a Cuetec or a Scorpion Cue .Too Funny   :D :D

The only beneficial thing about a cuetec is the fact that you could throw it when angry and not worry about it denting. See Earl for an example.

Yes I'm sure thats what Johnny Archer just did after winning in NY Tonight!!! with a Scorpion Cue !!!

A customer once asked me to cut the coating off the shaft of a Scorpion cue. When I cut through the fiberglass or whatever the material was I found a really cheap Ramin wood shaft. The coating on the shaft does stiffen up the hit of a rather thin overall cue. I have a Cue-Tech out there around my Gold crown and it don't hit the balls all that bad. It does have a high action type ferrule on it kinda like Meucci made famous, which adds a little cueball action to a shaft that might hit kinda dead otherwise. So here is my very biased opinion as a USA cuemaker. The Cue Tech hit is okay if you put on a good tip, but no where near most of the custom cuemakers cues and is beat hands down by almost all American production cuemakers also. I will say people with smaller hands often like the thinner Cue Tech butts. So the graphite/fiberglass stiffens it up a little for a cue that thin. It is a good playing cue for the $$ and the price is what sells them more than who shoots with them. Price em at $400 like plainer American cues are priced and and see whicht he customers start choosing. Now there are people who like tinky sounding cues, and ones who like nice quiet cues. So no one feel or hit will suit all and I am sure some will feel Cue Tech or Scorpion will play better than all the rest. I have heard many times over that I make one of the best playing cues on the planet, but I have also heard, they play too soft or too hard. Can't please everyone.

Actually Chris there are thousands of cues made to the same specs as most American cues that are priced well below $400.

I like quiet cues. I don't like the way Cuetecs hit. I convey that opinion to my customers. I don't condemn the construction or the longevity.

If we are talking HIT as the comparative quality point then I agree that Cuetecs are nowhere near the class of most recognized cuemakers in my opinion.

But I think it has proven that a person can do all the things they need to do to win at pool using a Cuetec. And that's the only point really. Is it good enough to fulfill that task? The answer is yes. Is it the most desireable tool for that task? For people who have experience with a wider range of cues the answer is often no or maybe. For a few the answer is yes.

Can it be made better with some modfications? Yes. But so can most other cues as well, at least insofar as "better" is defined by making it more comfortable for the person using it.

A lot of the people that see cutech in a bad way are heavy into pool or the area they are in is pool popular. They get a bad rap because they are not high end cues. I sell billiard supplies in a city that most would consider very tiny. We have a lot of outlying towns close. Cuetech around here is very popular. One, because guys who just like to bang around on barboxs and drink aren't spending over $150 for a cue. Two, because for the money they don't hit bad, and Three, these guys just like to keep it in the car at all times. Here it ranges from high heat to below zero temps. Most cues can't take that.

Also, there is not a ton of wealth here. I play with a $700.00 cue and people think I'm nuts. Nobody here owns a custom. So there is no way they are spending 3-400 on a good production cue, no matter how educated you make them. I learned that although I don't like them, if I am honest about the cue and let them try it, If they by it they are happy. That is all that matters.
I do however put cues of all quality and value ranges in there hand just so the can see that all cues hit and feel different.
