Had a Cuetec cue come in with the insert destroyed. I drilled it out and replaced it with phenolic. Cut a 5/16 hole and tapped with a 3/8x14 tap. It was really loose. Tried a 19/64 hole and it was better but still loose.

What is the tap that I should be using for Cuetec.

I had the same problem. I believe the actual tap size is 9mmX14 instead of 3/8.

> As usual,Dickie is on the spot. The Cuetec driver pin I made to copy the actual pin is .348-14. It fits every cue I've tried it on,some much tighter than others.

As for tapping,you might try an L (.290) drill since you said a 19/64 (.2964) was looser than you wanted.

The threads on the Cuetec pin are .045-.046 deep per side,leaving you with a .255 minor diameter,or VERY close.

Based on that,if it were me I'd be trying to bore it to .285 and hoping the tap doesn't split the part. Tommy D.

It was a pretty tight go, tapping it into the 19/64 pin. I was only able to get a turn or two and then removed the tap and cleaned out the hole. I would be afraid that if I went any smaller something would give. I had a couple cuemakers suggest that getting the tap size down to .360 would probably solve the problem.

I heard KJ has these taps so I will e-mail him.
