Cuetec SST Shaft

ok, i failed to sell my Cuetec SST shaft on EBay, so i just decided i was going to play with it, see how it does. i have to admit, i was somewhat surprised. this SST shaft seemed to get the job done quite nicely. i thought the 15 1/2" taper might be too whippy, but it still hit fairly solid, and i ran some racks with it.

just wondering if any of you other posters out there play with one of the SST Shafts? thoughts? opinions?

My Cuetec has a SST shaft on it, but it's a jump/break stick. I know alot of people talk shit about Cuetecs and all, but I'm personally very happy with it. As far as the shaft goes, it does have a pretty solid hit. I think part of the reason for that has to do with the fiberglass aspect. Another thing I like about the SST shaft is how smooth it stays all the time. Just the way the shaft is put together and the materials used and such it takes far less maintenance than a normal shaft. It also seems to jump pretty good too. I used to play with a Lucasi jump/break but the Cuetec I use now jumps better without any modifications (i.e. phenolic tip) than the Lucasi. JMO

Look...Cuetec has a horrible rep here I know...as does Meucci and about 200 other cues...but I will say this. It does not matter what cue you shoot with...it really matters very very little. Shoot with what you feel comfortable with.

I had a Cuetec j/b that I used for years and loved it. It was stolen out of my house and I have never been able to find one that hits the same since. Funniest of things. I was having my carpet redone in my living room and I let them in without me being there. They did not touch my Arnot Wadsworth in the same case, just stole my Cuetec...go figure. They don't touch the five hundred dollar cue, just the 150 dollar one HA HA. Thank God they did not take my ArnotQ. But seriously, the SST shafts are nice and they hit great. My daughter and my son both have cuetecs and that's what I will tell alot of folx to start out with...just for durability purposes and for getting used to pocketing balls.

I agree with you about what type of cue you should shoot with. I have a nice Bludworth that I use for playing with, but I only bought that after I became really serious about pool and learned the basics. I think people make far too much about what cues are the best to shoot with. I would bet just about any amount of money that Efren could take a house cue and still whip ass with it.

I posted this once before and nobody responded. What's the difference between a Thunderbolt and Vortex shaft as far as internal construction, external, and the superglide coating that they put on top?

From what I can tell they're both maple shafts, with a Graphite core. The biggest difference is that way the Vortex is put together. The Captain of my APA team bought a Vortex shaft for his Cuetec. Its hit completely different from the SST. I have a cuetec that I use for a Break cue, I never was a big fan of the fiberglass coating they put on the SST shafts. But I would say that Cuetec Cues are not as bad as everyone makes out.

I agree that Cuetec cues are not as bad as everyone makes out, nor Meucci and a few others. I actually like the very stiff hit of a Cuetec. Do you know if they eliminated the coating on either the Vortex or Thunderbolt so that it's just plain wood, be it laminated or whatever?

DM,
Now, if nobody answers you question this time, here is what you do.
Make one more post about it in all caps, followed by AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Then fall over in the floor, twitching.
Crawl over to the corner.
Suck your thumb, while staring at the ceiling.
Shake it off and then come back and ask again.

Thanks,

Jon

P.S. And no, i don't know the answer to your question.

It has a slick coating to the vortex,... It has to be some kind of protectant for the maple shaft. He's let me hit with it a few times. If I had known that the vortex shaft would feel that good. I probably wouldn't have bought my Lucasi. Don't get me wrong, I love my Lucasi. He did have problems with special tip Cuetec puts on those shafts. I think he ended up switching to Elk Master. The cuetec tips kept seperating.

huh? did i read some of those posts correctly? did someone say the SST Shaft has a fiberglass coating? if it does i sure dont remember that aspect of the shaft. i thought it was just plain wood.

now, my older Cuetec Cue (#99263) has a shaft with fiberglass coating, i believe. at least if memory serves me correct it does.

My current Cuetec, which I now use for a break cue, has the SST shaft. It has a thin layer for fiberglass "Tru-glide" coating over it. My cue is probably 2 years old. The coating to me, makes the shaft too thick and stiff. I'm sure some people like them. I didn't. However hitting with the Vortex shaft was completely different and felt good.

I like both of my SST shafts. The clear fiberglass coating prevents its from being whippy. Its is nice not to have carry all that junk just to clean it. Some water and a paper towl and its off to the races! If your serious about just playing pool and are not interested in playing with a expensive cue, I always recommend a cuetec with the sst shafts. It just goes to show its about how a players plays and not so much about the equipment. The cuetec and the SST shafts really make for a solid hitting cue.

I use a SST shaft and love it. And yes, it has a smoother fiberglass coating than cuetecs in the past.

However I play barbox pool. So what else do you need?

How much do want to sell the shaft for?

One of the thing's I like about a cuetec (and I know DrCue'sProtege can appreciate this) that if you get pissed, break your cue, and throw it on the roof of your favorite pool playing establishment....it only costs about 60 bucks, and you have a new replacement cue...)

BTW does anyone want to buy a threaded pin for a cuetec? :D

I play with a Cuetec and i like it alot. The Vortex shaft has a X type graphite crossbeam through the shaft. Whereas to the Thunderbolt has a hollow graphite rod that runs through the center of the shaft. I believe neither the Vortex or the Thunderbolt are fiberglass wrapped. Of course the SST (super slim taper) shaft is wrapped in fiberglass. I do like these cues, although many people on this forum do not like them much at all. But it's about what you like the most, and what feels best for you and Cuetec's do just that for me!

P.S. Instant message me on disturbed_cbr on yahoo messenger and i can send pics of the Thunderbolt shaft and SST shaft.
