Cuetec

I have noticed that no one really speaks of cuetec cues around here. What are the opinions of them around here. Can they be all that bad if Allison Fischer plays with one?

Yes.:D

SST shaft make Hulk angry.

I'll be serious for a moment. Allison and Earl both get paid handsomely to use Cuetec cues. From what I've read, Allison has her shafts worked over and I can tell that Earl has his Cuetec shafts taken down to the bare wood.

For those of us that have to pay for our own cues, wood is good, fiberglass is a$$. (I said a moment):D

I would entirely agree with this. To me it's a bit of a hustle with CueTechs. They have two great players sponsoring them. Allison uses a wood Cuetech shaft and Earl supposedly sands his shafts down somewhat. Now if my information about Earl has changed, then please chime in. But as far as anyone can tell, neither of them are playing with the off the shelf fiberglass encased shafts that Cuetech is known for.

I started with a Cuetech and it was fine until it started getting sticky and no matter what I did, it just stayed sticky. The glove thing was an option that I wasn't against, but it seemed that the bigger problem was the cue, and I was right.

I bought a regular wood shafted cue that I never even clean and I never have anything near the type of sticky crap going on that I had with a Cuetech fiberglass shaft. Never!

I am open for differences of opinion here, but fiberglass wrapped shafts are a complete waste of money and time. I think the whole notion that just because Allison Fisher and Earl Strickland use Cuetechs makes all Cuetechs okay is crap.

Allison Fisher is really playing with a rather unpopular and expensive Cuetech wood shaft, which honestly, might be fine for some. But the marketing reality is that Cuetech sells fiberglass encased shafts using her name to validate them when she doesn't play with them. Whether she thinks that or not, that is what's going on, and it's wrong.

I think CueTec cues has a niche market and they are doing very well in that market.

One pool room in Japan I used to go to, handed out to the players two cue tec cues and two gloves when they got the balls from the counter. Those are probably the best house cue you can get, since they are so resistant to abuse.

CueTec also sells a special solution to clean their shafts, I have never tried it.

Earl pretty much plays with a stock Cuetec shaft (which he has sanded down), but I ma more interested in his CueTec butt which is totally different than what we would get from the store, with all the special grip and so on.

I have seen a very fancy Cuetec owned by a Canadian trick shot artist Nick. I was very impressed by how well built that cue was.

I actually had a cue tec long time ago. It was a jump break, which I owned for about a week.

My first personal playing cue was a black graphite earl strickland (with black graphite-clad maple shaft) and it lasted me a good 6 years. I didn't have a glove, I just used hand talc and cleaned it when I got home with soap and water. It worked great for me.

Then I tried someone's Schon. I never could find my cuetec after that... guess I forgot it at the pool hall :D

Fact: Allison Fisher is an awesome, awesome player able to overcome handicaps of magnificent proportions :)

Yeah - I agree totally - very deceptive.

Scorpion does the same thing - Archer uses a wood shaft with the Scorpion break cue butt.

FOR THE LAST TIME:

ALLISON FISHER has publicly stated that her shaft is STOCK, out of the box, with only the tip changed.

Varney has stated that the shaft is FIBERGLASS CLAD.

We are confusing quality with personal preference here. Cuetec cues are manufactured to a fairly high standard as far as quality. Their is little debate that their "quality" is probably far better than that of a Meucci selling for a far higher retail price.
Whether or not you like them has little to do with quality. It's a matter of whether you prefer the feel of wood, or the smooth finished fiberglass coating, and the stiffer shaft that is generally associated with Cuetec.
Cuetec is what it is...a very well made, inexpensive cue that may or may not appeal to the individual player. Quality and personal preference are two completely different subjects.

Sure. I absolutely hate them. But, if they wanted to pay my entry fees and fly me to all of my tournaments and pay for my hotels, etc...I'd use one, too!

two of my teammates have bought the new CueTec cues, the ThunderBolt series. At first they loved them the only complaint they had about them was the tips so they had them changed. A few weeks down the road now they are complaining about the shafts being all sticky. I have personally always wanted a CueTec cue as i am a big fan of Allison Fisher. So this last Christmas my GF got me the signature series of a Allison Fisher cue with the SST shaft. I love it as how thin the taper and shaft is, and the only thing i noticed about it was after awhile of playing with it it gets or builds up static and this attracts dirt or dust from chalking. I hit it with those QSlick thingies and boom no more problems with it, now i just have to get my tip changed LOL. But i would rather just play with my Viper cue as it was the first cue that i have owned, and costumized it with my own taper and such. But for me i like my CueTec just that it comes second.

cuetec cues

if i do say that allison fishger does play with a cuetec but i play with two cuetec cues one is a earl strickland a nd one is a alliosn fisher 57 inch cue the other one is players cue so i have three cues now to play pool and a short cue to pop balls with in the pocket but someday i will own a cuetec jump cue :)

thanks

For me shooting with a fiberglass wrapped wood shaft is like taking a shower with a raincoat on.

I own a cuetec python which I got for free.
Ironically when I was shopping the internet to get my first cue, I was looking at and considering buying the very cuetec python I got for free. It was in a closeout section of the website (shootersbilliards) listed at $140.00 (35% below retail) Well the website had a deal going which offered a free $99.00 cuetec with the purchase of a McDermott, Viking, Et Al. I ended up going with a McDermott (which I love) and I got the python for free.
It is a full fiberglass shaft with a graphite truss. it offers a very stiff hit, and does make a nice break cue. Like others have said, the glass gets tacky and grabs. Last summer it was so bad I was having trouble breaking with it and resorted to using talc. I hate the feel of the glass, and I ended up getting a jerico stinger to break with.
Bottom line, I'll keep the cuetec as a back up but I am thankful I didn't spend the money to buy it.

Just my unique perspective on the topic...

:D good 1. I have to say my Fisher series with the SST shaft is way better then the ThunderBolt series on my teammates, but the tips can be a bit better, personally speaking.

Really, I think there's nothing wrong with Cue-tec. As stated before, they have a niche market. People who are looking to get a cue but aren't ready to spend a lot of money on a hobby they might not do in a year should get one. I mean, you can throw that sucker in your car-trunk and nothing is going to happen with it. You could probably shower with it everyday, if you wanted. I mean, it's not fragile by any stretch.

Would I play with one? No, it's not my preference but that doesn't mean I think it's crap.

For clarification/proof, this was taken from Allison's web site:
Q. Even though you play with a Cuetec cue, do you play with it "right out of the box" or do you have your cues modified such as tips, shaft, taper, etc. and do you have someone local do your work for you?

A. I do use an out of the box Cuetec. All that I ask for is a 56 inch cue. The average cue length is 58 inches. Other than that I use a moori tip and a local guy named Kevin does my tip changing.

Here is the link

Though Kevin, I am surprised you haven't gotten Allison to try a Sniper. LOL.
