Curious about your cues?

I am brand new here and am very excited to be connected to all of you people who love pool as much as me. Anyways I'm extremely honored to be able to ask you a question Keith. Just wondering about your personal cue collection and which are your favorites and what characteristics you like about them. ex. hit, quality, etc. Also I see your name mentioned in the Fury cue ads. Are the high end Fury cues worth getting into? Is the quality of the Fury cues comparable to other production cues? I have a Schon STL9 with a Predator 314 shaft but it just seems to be lacking something. I guess I'm just curious about the Fury RP series and just don't want to be misled by any of these claims in these ads and thought who better to ask about how well a cue hits than a veteran of the tables like you. Appreciate it Keith. Thx, Ian

Ian, welcome to the AzBilliards Discussion Forum.

I like Schon cues myself. Some of the players like to use those Predator shafts. I've tried a couple of Predator shafts and had a little trouble with them. I'm not saying they are not good because I know quite a few players that use them and play well with them.

My preference for a cue is to have forward balance in a shaft, with a little bit of a stiff hit, a skinny butt, and a little bit more weight in the back.

The best cue I ever had was a Balabushka, which got stolen. I bought it from Buddy Hall when I was 17, and it came with three shafts and I added two more. To this day, I have not been able to find anything that hit like my Balabushka.

As far as the Fury cues go, it depends on what you like. If you experiment with some of them, you might find a good-hitting cue to your specificiations. I played with one for a while, and actually, I beat Francisco Bustamante in a regional tournament with my Fury.

Balance and hits are the two most important features I look for in a cue stick. When striking the cue ball into the object ball, it is very important that it does what you ask it do, without any deflection. When you find a cue that runs on automatic pilot, you will know it.

I don't know if you'll read this Keith but thank you for your prompt response. I think I will actually get a different Schon instead. I also wanted to add that for you to stay connected with your fellow pool players as well as your fans shows that you are a true class act. Thanks again Keith. If you're ever up in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota let me know. I'd love to come watch you play some pool against some of the heavys up here. Ian
