Is the height of the cushion nose exactly the same on a brand new Gold Crown as on a brand new Diamond table?....someone told me there was a height difference, and that this height difference was the reason that Diamonds bank shorter than Gold Crowns....I'd appreciate any expert opinions on any or all aspects of this info I was given.

Thanks, Ghost

Who ever that someone was...is wrong, as they both have a 1 7/16ths nose heights, but there was a difference...but that has been changed...for the better, as everyone will find out shortly;)

Ok....still asking then...can you, or anyone else tell me why the Diamonds bank shorter?...myself and many others who play only on Gold Crowns all year, have to make adjustments to our bank game when we go to the DCC Tournament in January.

Thanks, Ghost

When dealing with a question of why one table banks 'shorter' or 'narrower' than another , the reason usually lays within the elasticity of the cushions themselves . A softer cushion allows the ball to sink into it deeper - then , when the ball comes back out , the 'cushion does the pushin' and this slingshot action reduces the angle of refraction , causing your bank shot to come up 'short' of the pocket.
Due to the amount the ball sinks into the cushion , angle of incidence will no longer equal the angle of refraction.
You can witness this on your own table by simply shooting the same shot at the same angle with the same english , but increasing the amount of power in your stroke - this will also push the ball deeper into the cushion , illustrating the effect mentioned above.
With extensive practice , you can learn to alter your bank shot angles as needed by using differing amounts of force , instead of altering them (or in addition to altering them) with english .
Hope this helps

I'd say the why is kind of irrelevant. If you get there and bang a few balls around to check them you'll know if they do or don't bank short. Then you'll have to adjust accordingly. The why is something only a table mechanic could change.
