Custom cue designing

It's amazing what we can do with technology these days....

I have designed a cue that I have a great cuemaker working on right now (he's on the board). Through a long process of exchanging emails and phone calls, he and I have come up with what I perceived would be my dream cue.... only problem was I had absolutely no idea what it would look like all together. I had visions, but nothing to really look at.

In looking at another thread, someone had used Photoshop to create a cue design. Since I can't use that program (I've tried!), I sent him an email with my description as given to me by the cuemaker. There will be slight changes to the pic (longer points and D/E silver double rings), but this is pretty much what I have on order. I told the guy who did the Photoshop work (timbo.hobo - thanks!!) that it was going to have a white buttcap, a black joint w/ white joint work - and this is what he came up with. I don't know if it is what the cuemaker has in mind, but I'm pretty sure he won't do me wrong. :D

How soon do you think (if ever) it will be protocol to use a program for visualizing cue designing?

Opinions? I was shooting for a simple cue, the older 4pt veneered look. Something that the schmoe player won't pay any mind to, but to a trained eye, will appreciate its beauty.

Bill Stroud now offers design your cue option in his site.
That's a nice design. Still though, you really don't know how the cue would flow until you put the pieces together.
But, drawing it is a great way to look at it before building.
Looking at your pic, I think the top white collar is too thin. Not enough threading or gluing surface imo.
Did you draw this on Auotocad?
Thnx.

yeah, that's actually where the blue/white veneer caught my eye. The problem with "build your own" on his site is that they all look the same.

Yeah, I really have no clue, but can't wait till I get it!

Autocad? It kinda looks like it, but I believe the guy that did it used Photoshop

seems like you had this backwards:):):). you shoulda done this FIRST and then emailed the design to the cuemaker to match. if the cuemaker just started this cue, maybe there's still time.

i mean, why collaborate over email, draw up a design in photoshop, and HOPE the cuemaker makes something similiar??????

well if I knew how to do it at the time, I would have... and if I can hand someone who I've never talked to the description and he can do exactly what I was looking at, I'd say we've got it covered.

Is this thread in the right section? I thought we had a cue section?
Falcon and Fury production cues LOOK better than that! In fact the new Fury sneakypete's look ten times better. :)

Of course I am just one of those practical old schmoe players who doesn't care what a cue looks like as long as it pockets the balls. LOL

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" You're not going to be holding much.

"Gremlin"

Fury cues look like shit, but that's just my opinion, just as you have yours. I happen to really like it, which is why I chose this design.

I wonder why all of the great cuemakers for the past 30 years have continued to make 4pt veneered cues with simple rings? Why is it still around????

They must be doing something right....

Thanks for your opinions...

Because they just look right.
I hope to make one with recut points instead of veneers someday.
