custom cue ID

There alot of value you here in parts at worst. I will repost this cue after I do my magic on it. New pin 3/8 11 brass. Maybe a new Butt cap. A new leather wrap. My standard tip and my custom shaft tapers.

please post on how the cue looks, feels, shots right out the box before modifications! just a general description

might buy one if another comes around!

Cue isnt bad not a $350.00 cue. There is alot of work in this cue for my bid price. Shaft wood is a lower grade then I would use. Wide grain. Joint work isnt great but good for a low cost player. Finish is a 6 out 10. If you want perfection then this is not the cue for you. But if you want a cheap player buy one. Or Buy this one after im done with it for $300 and you will have a killer. I dont like the 5/16-18 pin. It is the first thing i will change.

What do you plan to sell it as? You can't tell how the butt is assembles or what glues are used. Are you going to claim to have made it? Sell it as an unknown cue that some cue makers have done anonymously on ebay to get rid of their own rejects? How do you plan to represent this cue? I know of at least one somewhat known known cue maker a few years back who was taking "VERY" cheap imports and jazzing them up and selling them as his own cues. Went pretty good till they began to actually come apart. The price you paid tells us what the cue is worth regardless of replacing the butt cap or doing a re wrap.
Just my opinion but don't be a junk dealer.

I will not be jazzing it up. I will be cutting it up. I will be only using the forearm. I will not hide were the parts came from. I also will be adding a new Handel butt sleeve and butt cap. New shaft and joint pin.

What do you not like about the 5/16-18 pin?

This a 5/16 18 flat face joint. Piloted joints in a small pin are ok but I don't like them in flat face. I also use the big brass 3/8 11 to make the cue be more forward balanced.

I asked the seller about the maker. This was the response:

they were made by a retired cue maker in north georgia, Only made a few cues, I am selling his inventory thanks

Sounds like BS to me since he didn't name the maker.

I have done a little cutting looks like a import to me. It will make two fancy jump handles. They are v groove points.

I find this to be a particularly interesting thread.
I mean, it's got everything a good thread needs: mystery, intrigue, doubt, deceit, even talk of magic.
There are lessons to be learned here folks, stay tuned.

What if everything the seller said is true? What if the builder/maker actually is a retired CM and
only built as a hobby to amuse himself. Ah...but since no name was given, it must be BS.
No offense Doc but you may have been a little quick on the trigger there. Did you ask the builder's name?
What if his name were Earl Wilcox or Steve Flannery or whatever? Would it have made a difference?
Don't get me wrong Doc, I like you, you're an intelligent man. This is not about you. It's about
perceptions and how they can influence what hasn't yet happened, regardless of whether those perceptions
are true or not. If the seller has spoken the truth, there is now doubt about his honesty. Why???

"looks like a import to me." Really??? What leads you to that assumption? Is it that you were able to buy the cue for $100?
Bully for you but my pity is for the builder.
Has anyone ever seen a cue like this before or anything similar? Asians don't do 1-sies & 2-sies.
They build the same cue 1,000s of times. A few of them may even come-out right.
Since this possibly '1-of' cue has now been cut to pcs., was there anything about the construction to lead
you to believe the cue was import or otherwise mass-produced?

Since speculation is not reserved for the privileged few, I'll give you mine.
What if the builder were actually retired and Social Security ain't treating him right?
So now he's having to sell-off some of his labors of love so he can eat this week.
Or maybe the seller really is a scam-artist. After eBay fees & shipping, he may be able to eat this week too.
(on what's left from a $100 bill).
Point being, groundless speculation serves no useful purpose and can actually have damaging effects.
Speculation can have at least 2 effects; good or bad. Are either necessary???
Anyone who's missing the soap-operas just hasn't found AZ yet. I mean, what else would you be doing with your time?

KJ

Groundless speculation?

I contacted the person and posted their response. I said it sounded like BS. I don't think that's groundless. Speculation? Yes, of course.

The OP physically cut one up and commented on it. Speculation? Yes, groundless? I don't think so.

Would certain names mean anything to me? I dunno. Most cue makers are unknown to me. But I would post them here and ask.

I will solve this mystery for you.
North Georgia cues are made by Georgia cuemaker Jay Mills and a helper in another shop. Jay has been in Billiard Retail sales for decades. He used to manage Peach State Billiards which was Atlanta's top pool table and cue retail store. He also owned the APA in Atlanta for a time. He is now retired and he just started building cues a couple of years ago, although he had been around cue repair for a long time. I am not sure how long his partner has been at it. I have had many dealings with Jay through the years and every one of them has been positive.

Now that nails it down!

I wonder why the seller didn't name the maker? They could be selling for more I would think. People are hesitant to buy without any background info.
