Custom cue options

In the forum for sale there is the post about cues hitting like ??$#. I just recieved a custom cue that I really like the looks of and the way his cues hit in the past. This one is just hard to get used to. It has an Ivory pin with phenolic joint. And the others i have played with has brass or steel. So my question is if you put alot of different combinations together,the cue hits different correct? Such as this one has a hard ferrel and tip and 13mm shaft. So i had it turned down and a med. tip put on. And that changed the hit. If more changes were made such as a soft tip and an Ivory ferrel then the cue would then again play different. Also he said the cue had something called a tuning fork to give more feel in the cue. Wow just so many options. Any comments?????

I have found you can ALMOST get any cue to hit well if you change enough variables, orthe right variable. I have mostly cured my cues with ferrules, tips, tapering, and making sure all the components are tight....like joint pins, weight bolts etc.

no matter what, youo can hate the hit, and someone else will be all gaga over it?....just the way it goes.

I've never heard of an ivory pin. Is the whole thing ivory, or just a tip cap?

Everything you do to a cue will change the hit. A steel jointed cue will hit differently with an ivory ferrule than an LBM ferrule. Ivory jointed cues hit differently than steel, and a piloted ivory joint will hit differently than a flat faced ivory joint. That's the beauty of cue "collecting". You get to hit with a lot of different set ups until you find "the Magic Wand" (for you...it might be a piece of junk to someone else). Good luck with your quest!

i ignore all the sales pitches etc. when i'm looking for a cue to play with, speciffically a cue that is my primary playing cue, not a cue I'm buyinng for sentemental reasons, or looks, etc.

If i like the feel of the hit and the CB is doing what I want it to do then thats all that matters, as long as its well made meaning quality workmanship-I dont want the cue to fall apart or start making funny sounds in a year because something came unglued because of bad adheasives, if it hits them like you like the rest is BS, I know what I like, when I find it thats it for me. I have a few cues and do use them all but I have a primary playing cue for action, practice, the rest I hit balls with for a reason, it teaches me to be able to adjust to different cues quickly if necessary, and varity is the spice of life, you cant have to many girls or cues to play with. ;)

the whole joint is ivory. I have been playing with a schon and predator shaft for a while, so going back to an original shaft and to ivory and wood instead of steel and brass it is a total different set up. But the cue has little deflection I will proably like it once use to it
