custom cue question

I have a question, hopefully someone can answer for me. I have a custom cue and I want it changed a little. I can't afford to buy a new one the way I want it but I think I can make the one I have into the way I want it, if I talk to a custom cue maker about it. Is it disrespectful to the maker of the cue to have it changed a little by someone else? i plan on owning the cue forever.

What I want done is to go wrapless. A friend of mine said it can just be refinished over the wrap that is there already, which would be fine with me as long as I don't feel the wrap. I like the way it looks but I like the feel of a wrapless cue better but Can't afford to buy that brand of cue as a wrapless.

Any suggestions? Should I just leave it the way it is?

p.s. the cue needs to be refinished anyways

Complete bullpuckey.... It's YOUR CUE, and once you buy it, you should be able to do whatever you want to it. If the cuemaker is any good, you might first consider using him/her for the modifications. Depending on what you have done to it, using someone else may give the maker a reason to no longer guarantee the cue.
I'm guessing you didn't buy this cue directly from the person that made it?
If that's the case, there is probably no harm in having whoever you want to do a refinish and/or re-wrap on it.

You didn't say but............let's say your cue is linen wrapped now.
There are a few leathers that can be finished to feel in your hand almost very similar to a wrapless style cue. Stack leather is one that comes to mind first. There are a number of different ways it can be finished from a suede feel to a shiny hard coating.
If you don't like it.... your only out around $150.
If you decide you want a nice piece of wood for your handle, that can be done also, but your looking at around two to three times the cost of the leather. I'm sure you can find someone who may do it for less but it's not as cut and dry type of operation that will keep your cue at the same specs it is now size wise unless you know exactly what your doing.

Good luck on you quest..........

Send me the cue and I will completely refinish it (finish over the wrap with automotive clear coat) for $100. Shipping extra.
I have done several of these for the local players and they come out smooth as glass. What color of linen wrap do you have now?
