Have any of you guys ever built a cue with a custom metal joint?

I am intrested in having one made with a damascus joint and maybe some damacus rings. If I can get the measurments of a joint sleeve and the best size ring measurment, I can have them made by another party. I was wondering if anyone could help me with any problems a cuemaker would have doing this and any cuebuilders who might be intrested.

Is there a particuler reason that you want a rusty joint?

You can get damascus in stainless now. Regular damascus would take less maintenence than a tip. Just a drop of oil every couple of weeks.

I don't think you will find a cuemaker that will put Damascus rings in a cue because the cue could not be tapered down to size because the Damascus steel is so hard that I doubt that it could be cut with a router. It would probably ruin the teeth in a shaft machine and/or break/chip/dent in the cue and God knows what else.

Right on the money there. Having worked with this material for a few years I have seen my fair share of of people who are normally quite as a mouse, go into a yelling rage while trying to cut this metal.

Damascus is a awesome metal and IMO, one of the prettiest, but I don't think its fit for a cue.

It will also melt the epoxy holding it when it heats up from grinding.
Thomas Wayne has made one with Damascus though.

it looks very nice and shouldnt be a problem for any cuemaker who make his own steel joints as lon as its aneeled.

Bandido, if you have the ability to forge and machine the steel to the correct size yourself I would be happy to talk to you about building me one of your cues.

I had assumed most cue builders would prefer to let a bladesmith forge the joint sleeve.

I'm sorry but I don't personally have the capability. My understanding was that you needed joint and ring specs to take to someone who can and we can compose a cue around what you'll supply to make it the centerpiece of your cue.
