I was thinking about buying a cheap sneaky pete and having a custom shaft made for it, hoping it will play jam up. Are there any suggestions on some cuemakers that make good shafts? Do you think that the type of joint pin used can prohibit a cue maker from making the shaft? Thanks

Custom or CUSTOM

A possibility would be for you to buy a one piece cue and have a cue maker make it a two piece. There are a few that will do this and tweek the cue as it's being converted, trim the shaft add a better tip, whatever. The dis-advantage is you don't know what you'll get till it's done. I prefer to buy finished product only and only if I can try it first.

If your set on buying a special shaft then try an X shaft or Preditor or find someone who will build you a tiger maple shaft. All worth the price of admission.

why buy a sneaky pete, when a well made two piece cue, with nice inlays costs the same amount?

A few thoughts on your querry

A custom sneaky pete runs about 250 from a decent cuemaker. Anything more is too much. I know bob frey makes them but they are not full splice cues and they are conversions. Dale perry makes them for under two hundred but his quality has gone down. Here is what I suggest. There are a few options for you.
If you have a predator now you can have a cuemaker match up your shaft to a sneaky butt. And you can use your current shaft.
Or you can have a sneaky pete made.
Micheal Wagner from raven cues makes a shaft several ways. He has a ton of different shafts he can make.
He can make a regular shaft, one that is built like a predator, or a regular shaft that is not a 8 piece splice but a regular one with the hollowed top area with stuff inside like a predator.
His sneaky petes are 250 but I am sure he can make one with a shaft of your choice for the same if not just a little more. If you go to ravencues.com and just play around you will see what I mean about his attention to building such a perfect playing cue. I own one now and I am also playing around with some of his shafts this weekend. I have one of his shafts on a 3000 dollar mottey as we speak.

The previous post was somewhat correct. You can buy a cue from a cuemaker for about 500 bucks with points, Jensen makes a great one for that as well as blud and Dale perry (if you tell him you don't want it rushed). Also CHeck out pat diveney from Iowa. He makes an amazing hitting cue for the money as well. The only thing I don't like about most smeaky petes is the wood to wood flat faced joint. I just don't care for it. Don't buy one to hustle with cause it makes no difference. Nobody bets according to a stick. If you want one for the simplicty of it.GREAT CHoice. But I would build one with a wrap and put the money into the shaft and joint.
Hope this helps,
Jordan

I think that Im a bit misunderstood as to what I was talking about. I can get a sneaky pete for really really cheap. Its not a custom made cue. Im not looking for a custom made sneaky, Im looking to have a custom shaft made for the cue so will play better than the shaft it came with. So I guess it like have a custom made cue for a really cheap price. Its kind of like some of cuemakers out there that make their sp out of a house cue or a dufferin. They just modify or add a joint and make a custom shaft for it. I am just looking for some suggestions on some cuemakers out there that make good shafts

Bob Moss, American Cowboy Billiards, designed a high performance laminated shaft that is made by Dan Trogdon, cuemaker. You can pick your taper, ferrule, tip, length, width, etc. Cost is around $160. If you want more information, you can email him at bmoss13@hotmail.com.
