Who are the better custom cue makers around right now that can make a pretty intricate (I think a medium to low level 4) playing cue that will last? I may come into some extra $ soon and would like to have a cue I've been dreaming about for years come into reality. I don't mind if the waiting list is a year or so, as long as it's very good quality. Thanks :)

Give a price range, it's easier to recommend cues. For instance I've heard good things about Bob Frey sneaky pete's. They're about >$200.

Quite a few cuemakers can build what you want. I will recommend three; Ron Haley, Paul Mottey, and Mike Lambros. There are many others but I'm listing those I have experience with. I also own a Hercek, Schick, and Josswest and they are great cues, but their waiting time is very long.

Tim Scruggs comes to mind, lots and lots of newer cue makers can too. Personally like Bob Dzuricky. Though from a resale value, and even as a investment in the current cue market Tim Scruggs is a great choice.

Andy Gilbert from all reports makes a fine cue as well.

those would be my current choices if I wanted a somewhat fancy cue that plays good. New from them I'd guess would go TS--about 2800 (though I'd call all of them and ask) DZ...probably about 1200 or less....AG...probably about 1400 or so...

All prices are guesses....

Let's pretend it's around $1500. I'm not getting in line for a south west, I just want a cue that looks like this:

without paying a lot. I want to pay as much as it takes to get a decent looking cue with an awesome hit. Now that I look at it how I had in mind... maybe I want tiger stripe maple instead. What do you all think?

PS. Thanks for the source pic skins. I chopped it a little.

I'd email Bob at www.dzcues.com

Haven't heard of any complaints about his cue's, know the one I have hits as well or better than any of the cue's I've owned. In that price range he is going to be able to make the cue I would think. I'd also check with Dickie Neighbors.

I think that Nitti cues might do well for you. He is based out of Florida and retains value really well. I am not sure how long the wait is. He uses a level system also. www.nitticues.com He has a lot of photos on the site of his cues so you can see if you like his work.

there are cues out there that are similar to your design and if that will do for you than great. if you want it done to your exact design and specs my suggestion of course is Keith Josey.

No specail order, here is 5 to start.

1. Mike Bender
2. Pat Diveney
3. Bill Schick, starting at 3k
4. Mike Capone
5. Tim Scruggs

Based on the pics, it seems similar to a design by Dave Jacoby. You may want to try him. Hes a good guy, cues aren't too badly priced and they play good.

That's what I've heard, and I've seen the Jacoby cue that mine is similar to (see the link in my last post), but I think I may end up with a Josey. Jacoby is good from what I've heard, but I've heard even more about Josey. Now I just need to save up :)

I'm sorry to say that I doubt Josey would do that cue, it's not his style of work. He does great work in his own style of cue though.

(I may be wrong but you don't really see that type of Josey cue and makers tend to do their best work in their own style. Josey and Nitti are good friends, try Chris Nitti and you will be very happy.)
