So I'm playing some 9 ball with a pool buddy, one of our friends shows up.. we're looking for a few laughs, so the friend I'm playing racks 'em, says "CUTTHROAT,
$20 a man". WTF, haven't played cutthroat in like forever... you know what?... we had a gas! Passed around the same $20's, no one got too far ahead, winner buys the first round of drinks. Nothing serious... just three guys shooting pool and having a blast.

Love that game with 3 guys. Do you pocket balls that belong to the other 2 players?

We play this way... http://sites.google.com/site/poolandbilliard/Home/five

Yep... my buddy showed me the specific rack also. If you scratch, you spot one of yours...
Your link is for "Five", which is Cutthroat in reverse, pocket YOUR five first. We played regular Cutthroat, you have to eliminate TWO players, 10 balls. Next time you have three buds hanging out, try it cheap or for the time... total blast.

As long as nobody is good enough (or sober enough) to run out the table in the first couple innings, then cutthroat is an awesome game.

The last time I played cutthroat was when I was 20. I had friends at my parent's house and they wanted to play cutthroat. I suggested that they just play each other, but they insisted. I showed them why cutthroat is the single dumbest game ever invented.

If you aren't usually able to run ten of fifteen balls with a hard, open break, you are under a C player.

You only have 5 balls. I'll bet you can't run your 5 balls from the break often.

Cutthroat

Keep your eyes open for a new version called Osh Kosh Cutthroat. We invented it at the last Pool School in Osh Kosh Wisconsin. Denny Stewart, Mark Finkelstien, Scott Lee and Myself (Lance Cowles). Mark wrote a note about and submitted it to a couple of the pool related magazines. We had a great time!!

Silly game. Just play winner stays 8 ball and the three of you will get plenty of action.

How do you play the game?

It IS a basic game... that was the point, to have some fun, nothing serious, no bearing down, betting high. We did mix it up a little... if I'm going for, say, the guy with the 11 to 15 balls, I have to shoot them in rotation, 11 first, etc. That takes the 'any ball' factor down some... more position play involved.

I love this game. We always play that you can shoot your own to play shape. Someone always gets ganged up on (normally me) which makes it more fun to try and run em on the first go

Runner... I'm confused . We sometimes also play 'Cut Throat' by eliminating the 2 players.
Scratch and both opponents spot balls. How can you lose when your ball spots on a scratch?

Yeah, that's right... worded it wrong! Scratch and your OPPONENTS get to spot one.
Our version is call ball, and the twist is you have to run your opponents' balls in rotation,
meaning if I'm going for your 11-15, gotta start with the 11... and if I shift to the 1 through 5 man, start with the 1. A little more position play and strategy vs just random shots.

Now on a bar box, on a scratch I think you select which of yours gets thrown out.

So if you are 1-5 and you are at the table and shoot the 11 & 12 can you then shoot the 7 if that is the lowest of the of the 6-10 group left on the table or do you need to finish the 11-15 group before going after a different group? IE can you switch groups in the middle of a run as long as you are always contacting the lowest in each group?
