cutting a shaft from a dowel

I just recieved 2 dowels from Wes Hunter. I must say, they look really nice.

My question is, how long should a cuemaker take to cut one of these dowels down to a finished shaft?

It's my understanding that you need to take time between cuts, i just want some opinions as to how much time is needed.

Every cue maker has their own parameters in how many steps they take and how long between steps to take their shafts from 1" dowel to completed shaft.
I, myself, make eight passes waiting a minimum of six weeks between turns. This equates to a minimum of one year for my blanks. I've never had trouble doing it this way but I certainly am not saying it is the only or best way. There are some who take less time and others who take more.

Joey, I agree in what you guys say about cutting over a year. Could you please tell me what you mean by "How you center them is vital"? I have not concidered this. Do you mean you need to make sure the shafts needs to be centered with no run out every time or that you move where the original center will be befor you cut round or reduce diameter?
