Cutting a sledgehammer

I have a question for the experts here, on a sledgehammer type ferrel tip combo would it be okay to cut the tip flat and retip with leather? Thanks

I know a cue repair guy that did something similiar with the Fury Jump/Break cue which I believe is the same type of tip/ferrule material (black linen rod). He just faced off the black linen tip/ferrule combo on the fury Jump/Break and then attached a tip.

thers no problem at all just face off the ferrule and install a leather tip ive done quiet a few of the sledgehammers like that.
