Cyano questions

I notice looking through the search area on cyano finish that the cuemakers like to apply an epoxy sealer first. What is generally used? Two ton? West system?
Also, any recommendations on what to use to pop the finish? Any kind of compound or something else?
Comments would be appreciated.

If you're going to use cyano for finish, then you shouldn't need the epoxy sealer. Coat a junk piece of wood with motor oil & then finish it with cyano. I bet you'll be amazed to see that it bonds. If anything, you may have it backwards. Seal with cyano & then use epoxy to build the finish coats.

Five minute Devcon makes a decent sealer, but you have to get it on fast. Super glue is a good sealer if you are putting on super glue finish. But I tried Super glue as a sealer under auto clear coat many years ago and the entire clear coat finish peeled off like a sheet of plastic. About the only reason I would use an epoxy seal coat under super glue is to make the black phenolic rings look really black as super glue does not do that as well.

I will say this, if you do a cyno finish right with a quality cyno, it can last a long time. Reason I say that, I took an old cue of mine back in a partial trade for a new cue. The 10 year old cue had a cyno finish, it was in tact and although i refinished it, for the heck of it I buffed it and it came up shiny, like new.
