Cyclop ball polishing

Hi all,

Was just wondering if anyone has polished their Cyclop balls? My old Centennials and Aramiths I would normally polish in my home built 5 gallon bucket polisher with the Aramith polish. Has anyone done this or know if it's ok to use the same method on the Cyclop set?

Please no Cyclop bashing either folks, I'm just asking a question here not doing ball comparisons :)

Thanks!

Run mine through a Diamond polisher with the Aramith product. They come out just fine.

Polishing

I do so on a regular basis and have been doing so for the last year. I treat them the same as I did my Aramith and Centennials and have seen no issues with them. I polish them in a home made bucket polisher as well.

The resin used making Cyclop should be pretty close to the resins used by as any other pool balls brands and as such, there shouldn't be any problems cleaning or polishing Cyclop.

I will say that Cyclop balls need much less cleaning than My Super Pro's or the Centennial sets I have. I have only used Novus plastic cleaner on my Cyclop set and they come out great.

I believe that the Aramith polish may have some very fine abrasives in it and it seems like the more you use it the more of the protective shell you remove so the faster the balls get marked.

In my opinion you should try Novus as long as it works.

Qick question?

I've cleaned mine Aramith balls by hand with Aramith ball cleaner, but I have never polished them? Are you guys using a separate polish after you clean them?

Worst balls for TV! Ah come on, you "asked" for it......Where's the AZ spirit?....

I have not cleaned my set yet. I'm going to use the BallStar liquid polish with a BallStar cleaner. The liquid does not seem to be abrasive.

In reference to Novus. What # is being used. Is it the Spray?

How are you using them?

Are you running them thru a clean cycle and then a polish cycle, doing by eye or timer?

Yes it is the spray and it is #1.

I have not tested Aramith myself but there was a thread here quite awhile back and someone rubbed a piece of plexiglass with the Aramith polish and it fuzzed it with slight abrasions. I might try it myself this weekend so I can tell for sure and I will get back to this thread with the results.

I use Aramith myself on my other ball sets and it works great for making them look near new again but the finish does not last long.

I use ScratchX 2.0 1st... removes most everything...you can get it here ...

...and then Brillianize (I use a light spray mist over the balls in the CLEAN Microfiber polisher..) spin it for 2-5 mins.. (homemade 5 gallon ball polisher) perfectly cleaned/polished static free balls. Get Brillianize here as well..

Clean the Chalk/lint/dust/hair etc - Super Vacuum then damp Brush off the table. Don't handle super polished ball with you sweaty hands... yada yada.. enjoy

To those of you using Novus and other non-Aramith products:

I used to advocate using Novus too. It, and other products, shine the balls up great. But then I started to notice inconsistent throw over the course of a short period of play and eventually switched back to Aramith. Then, not too long after, Dan White posted the following in the 4.1 section, which validated my informal observations.

Soooo, you all may want to reconsider.

Thanks Lou. I remember this test and will re-read the thread. I rarely need to clean the Cyclop balls and when I did I noticed no ill effects from Novus. I also have used Brillianize but the balls seem to dry, where as the Aramith seems to slippery.

Well I tried the Aramith cleaner on a piece of clean, clear Plexiglass and it definitely hazed the surface. There is no other dedicated product that cleans the marks off of balls better then Aramith ball cleaner but as I suspected it is because of its rubbing compound like qualities.

I used a paper towel for the rub test and used two towels, one with Aramith and one with water. I did this to make sure the fine abrasions were not caused by the paper towel.

Worst and/or Best

The Cyclop balls also come in exactly the same traditional colors as the Centennials and Aramith.
