Cyclop Pool Balls

I have all three sets, Centennials, Aramiths and I bought the cyclop balls in the group buy.
I had not seen the cyclop balls until the Derby. I thought they played funny, they would not take turn like I was use to, I can usually turn the obj. ball of the rail, but it did not seem to work at the Derby, it seemed like I could get about half as much turn.
I talked with John Brumback and he said the same thing.
Both John and I bought the sets in the group buy and have shot with them at home.
I have not noticed as much difference at home that I mentioned above. I am not sure if it was new cloth and new balls at the Derby or what, but they seem to play about the equal to the other makes now.
One thing I have really noticed is that they stay alot cleaner, and I mean a lot. John said he doesn't get the black marks that other sets got. I lined my pockets so I had cured that problem.
I did weigh them when new and the Cue ball was 2.2 grams heavier than the other balls and 3 grams heavier than the measle ball.
I think they play a little different due to the surface being slicker which causes them not to take english quite the same, but the slicker surface keeps them cleaner..

Hmmm....

A few weeks ago I was looking to see if anyone was selling the Cyclop balls and I didn't see anyone selling them.

I was thinking of buying maybe 20 sets and being one of the first to list them on Ebay.

I played with them and they worked fine for me. It's never the make of the ball that causes me to miss.

I think they will be here for long time. I was told they will be used again next year at the Super Billiards expo and at the TAP National.

I found nothing wrong with them...but I'm also happy to use a $40 set of Elephant balls too.

Balls are balls as long as they are almost round.

The Forum is better than a funhouse.....it's more than amusing to see some of the cynicism and responses.
This is better than Comedy Central.......keep it up fellows......you guys are truly entertaining.

But do read the poll results.....Ha Ha Ha......So I guess I'm in the majority while you guys are... are...just freakin' funny.

Also amusing were your poll choices...could you please bump it again, so we can have a refresher?

I skulls it, but I am headed some the highway at the moment...

If someone plays in the BCAPL sponsored tournaments; DCC; or others that use the skittle balls, I think it's smart for those people to get a set so they practice with the same balls used in those tourneys. What's the big deal? Even if they're not to your liking, if you play in any of the tournaments you should get to know them and used to the colors.

Carry on.

Matt,

I honestly don't see what you are trying to achieve here. Do you really need to drive the point home that you are right and everyone else is wrong? You did a poll, so what?? I doubt many here care.....

I don't get it, please explain to me what I am missing.

Cyclop

I have owned them all and the cyclop balls play better than the centennials. I had, and sold the aramiths very quickly. They were a distant third, not even close. The centennials are great but the weights vary more than any other set and the cueball is pure garbage in rank. The cyclop cue ball was better playability wise but I traded it out for a good red circle ball which I liked even better.

The bottom line? I like them even if you do not. If Diamond sticks with them, they will be the new standard. Hard to argue that fact.

Matt:

While we may be Comedy Central, you're Anti-Cyclops Central. ;) You're expending an awful lot of effort to try to diminish the Cyclops (primary), and boost Brunswick Centennials (secondary).

But the more you do this, the more you're bringing out the positive reviews of the Cyclops, so it's kind of a LaBrea Tar Pit -- the more you fight, the deeper you sink.

Hey, I don't like the colors either. But the balls do perform great (I have a set that was part of the initial group buy).

Imo, if the seven ball had been in a (pastel) brown, I would have had less of a problem playing with them. Two make two sequential balls (6 & 7) in a similar blue/green theme caused me to hesitate in every rack to avoid making a bad-hit unforced error. I witnessed this happening to others.

broski, its pretty simple. Use what you will be competing with in tournaments/BCA events. Thats why I practice with them

The traditional colors I had were very pretty. I loved the fact that they stayed much cleaner than my Cent's, but I have a Ballstar so cleaning is not an issue.

Used them at DCC and they seemed fine. The name is Cyclop though. No s. It is a Chinese thing to spell English words in funny ways without thinking about how the audience will take it.
