Cyclop shutting down?

I guess i was off base also. Apparently XingBing is just the maker. Cyclop is a brand owned by WeiluBilliardCo(make Peri, Eclat cues) in China. Dynasphere is owned by a Belgian co. that has Xing Bing ,make their line.

Thanks for digging in. I knew it was the same manufacturer and I always assumed the manufacturer owned Cyclop.

Interesting, I just bought a cue that was brought to this country and left with a very prominent cue company to "see what they thought of this Chinese cue". I got it from a friend who was friends with the family that runs the cue company.

The cue is really nice and very well made, it plays very good.
It is a Eclat cue.

Interesting didn't know cyclops was getting replaced
They're not afaik. Looks like their site is down for some reason. Weilu site us down also. Something about some Chinese internet licensing. Probably forgot to pay-off the right official.

A friend of mine is colour blind. He plays only snooker and occationally it causes problems, especially with the brown and red balls. My father was colour blind but he didn't play cue sports. It caused some problems in his day to to day life though.

I feel for the people that have colour blindness, but in fairness I think ball sets should be coloured in a way that is easily distinguishable on the screen and the colour blind would allready be used to watching the numbers. I think the original Aramith tv set does a very good job in that regard. The traditional colours were problematic and on low res tv's you couldn't even tell the difference between the 2, 4, 7 or 8. It was a major issue. Of course tvs and monitors got a lot better, but then there is the Asian market where a number of people use their phones for viewings, and we're back in problem territory with the old colours.

I'm a traditionalist when it comes to colour for playing pool in the pool halls. I like the old stuff, Brunswick tables, green cloth, centennial balls, but I can certainly understand the people who have to take into consideration viewers watching on tiny screens. Personally, if it was up to me, we'd still used GCs with green cloth and centennial balls. It's such a beautiful combination.
Watching on small devices is one reason why Matchroom changed ball colors.

Then they did a study and found the grey cloth didnt overwhelm the camera... which the blue does. The human eye had no problem, but the camera is a different story. The neutral grey made the balls easier to distinguish from one another. There is no reason Matchroom cant go back to traditional ball colors now.

I am with you on the green cloth.

I have a set from the first batch of cyclop. I never had a problem with them, the Easter egg colors were a bit strange to me-however they were not confusing. I liked how they played, sounded. I probably only used them 100 hours total.

I took them to the pool room once and used them in a 1P game, ended up ahead 5 games in as many hours. Next day I came back to play the same game again, the guy I was playing wasn’t having it. We didn’t play ever again. The balls in that room were past worn out. The room was wore out. It’s gone now so don’t matter where.

I like centennials best

Interesting that you described these as "Easter Egg" colors. If I am thinking of the same set, we have a Dynaspheres Tungsten set and my daughter, upon seeing them for the first time, said, "Oh wow, those look very "Art Deco" or mid 1920's." Since she is my daughter, she is right and you are mistaken! :-)

Actually they are Art Deco for sure. I use the term Easter egg as it’s more relatable for the wider audience.

Possibly the 40’s are a bit more accurate😃

Finally saw a set of Tungstens in person the other day. They're even worse than in the pics i've seen.
You are the MOST consistent, reliable, traditionalist on AZB by a WIDE margin! :-) While I generally agree with you that traditional is best, and I personally really like the maroon color and, of course, the orange 5 ball, the other sets are fun to switch out. I guess this is why ford no longer makes model A and model T. People wanted different colors and features! LOL.

That said, for the month of July every year, I throw a set of "Stars and Stripes" balls on the table. My father, who is 83 came over to play last week. We played one rack with them and he asked me to put them in the box and get out the Centennials! :-) LOL. So we did. Maybe when I get old like my Dad and Garczar I will sell all of my other 20 some odd non traditional sets and just keep my Centennials! I just hope I make it that far.

Thank you for that color chart Fatboy! Very useful information. Based on this, all of the sets we see coming from Dynaspheres with the grey and light blue may be based on the 1920's? Clearly and interestingly, the "Traditional Color Sets" seem to be based on the swatch from the 1910's which makes a lot of since. Perhaps that is a time frame when Billiards was erupting more broadly as an industry and in it's manufacturing and popularity first power growth phase? Thank goodness they didn't make a purple 5 ball back then! The entire would could be in chaos by now! :-)

They were also called "skittles" colors.

I would 1,000% play with this set and have fun doing it. Sometimes we do things just for fun, like the day my son and I played on an outdoor table at a miniature golf place with our custom cues, it was one of the most fun I had at a pool table ever; or last week when we made an almost 9 foot cue out of extensions, part of a break/jump cue and a 31" shaft.
