Dear Gentle Readers,
Headline # 1: WOW!
The Efren v. Danny match:
Billy, “This is the best one-pocket match I’ve ever seen.”
Danny, “Neither player deserves to lose.”
Headine # 2: What a Game!
Efren came back from trailing by 8 balls:
Billy, “Nobody plays that good.”
Danny, “One of the best games Efren has ever played.”
Billy, “Efren should have been arrested for robbery.”
Billy, “it doesn’t get any better than this.”
Commentator comments:
Billy, “Danny is a cool, cool cat.”
Danny, (to Billy), “Two days ago Jason was the best banker in the world. Now you don’t want him to shoot the shot.” “Oh. Because it doesn’t go.”
Billy, “When bank pool players shoot with speed, the shot is more predictable.”
Danny, “I was never intimidated by anyone. I dogged it against everyone.”
Billy, “Sometimes it’s better to make your opponent’s ball than just nudge it out of the pocket.”
Billy, “Scott is concerned with losing credibility. He’s 0 and 8 over two years.” (Scott let out a huge yell right after his first win. Over Jason.)
Scott, “Efren is still playing as well as he ever has. Especially around the stack. As long as he doesn’t have to play 10 hours a day. With his knowledge he is the most feared player on the planet.”
Danny, “Efren could finish high in any tournament playing left handed.”
Billy, “If Efren has any weakness, it’s distance.”
Danny, “Tough to debate any choices Efren makes.”
Scott, “These players aren’t thinking about the money, they want to be the best.”
Danny, “It’s tough to dog it up here in the booth.”
Scott, “Efren did about 12 things with that simple shot.”
Scott, “Efren can cut balls better than anyone his age.”
Billy, “When you get up from a shot twice, that’s a good indication you’re not going to shoot it.”
Billy, “Efren excells in a race to 3. There’s a certain kind of pressure that he can handle.”
Billy, “Danny’s execution has been suburb.”
Some musings …
Watching Efren win game after game, I believed in him intellectually. But emotionally I kept waiting for age to catch up to my sweet baboo.
It was interesting that Efren practiced rotation when warming up.
Danny - - sitting through the introductions - - listened carefully to what Kenny had to say about him in the introductions.
Danny racks like it’s an 8-ball match.
I liked seeing the ladies wearing sunglasses. In fact, it was cool to see so many girls in the audience.
A lot of water drinkers, as opposed to soda, in the audience. Does Sandcastle serve booze? Food?
It seemed to me that the players, for the most part, were excellent in lagging for the break.
I didn’t know this … after a scratch, if all balls are in the kitchen, the ball nearest the head string is spotted.
There is a center line from the spot to the bottom rail. I guess it makes it easier to align the rack.
Saturday was rainy in Edison. This makes, for some reason, it harder to draw the cue ball.
Shane used two bridges, just as he did in, I believe, a 9-ball match.
Jason walks to the table faster when he has a shot he likes.
Drivel is my life,
Sunny
