Well, we had our meet-n-greet and mini-tournament today and as expected, it was a blast. We had seven Az'ers show up to shoot. Before I say any more about shooting pool, let me just say that things like the one we had today are the very reasons my wife and I like to break out of our normal routine every now and then and meet new people and make new friends. It supports my belief that there are many people in this world who are just out-and-out good people and the ones we met today are no exception. My hats off to you all my friends!!!
Now the tourney was a round-robin affair that we just flat out ran out of time to finish properly, although many a good match was played. Some darn good shooters showed up today. We threw my little lady (Mrs. Maniac) into the mix so we would have an even eight players (which she told me to tell y'all thanks for lettin' her play). We didn't stay long enough to see who got the trophy for the best player, but at this time I would like to proudly proclaim myself as the recipient of the "Hoover Award" (because I really sucked :D ).
A good time was had by all. I would like to thank Donovan for his work in making this come about and for all his contribution to today's festivities. Looking forward to doing this again.
Somebody post and tell me who won the trophy!!!

Now i know why Veitmy wasn't at clicks today.

Great post, I couldn't have put it better myself.

A wonderful day of pool, humour & friendship. Probably the best day out I've had in years! I'm still amazed how quickly the time passed by, it's no wonder we had to shorten the proceedings.

Maniac, those are some nice pics. I'll include the few that were taken at the end when 3 of us lagged to decide the winner of the 1st Fort Worth AZB Get Together Trophy (at least I think that's what it's called!) Yes, we lagged for the cup! Needless to say after my horrible attempts with the lag all day I didn't win! Overall winner was Run The Century, who played some great pool throughout the day.

Many thanks to Donovan for taking these pictures......and for letting me whoop his butt in our game!!!!!:D :D :D

We must do this again, it was a blast!

What A Great Time!

Yeah, the format was grueling!

Race to 2 8-Ball.
Race to 5 9-Ball.
Tie 1 Game of Short Rack Banks

There is such a difference in these 2 games that we had about 35% of the matches go to the Banks! It turned out to be quite exciting. Although it took so long to complete all the round robins, that they had the big lag off for the 3-way tie. First Run the Century and Chilli66 lagged. Then Samiel stepped up and lagged down the middle. it was a half inch win by Run the Century! All three of those bastards beat me up in the last round! ;)

Samiel was fun to finally place against again. He beat me as usual, but I did get to give Samiel a run for fun. Then he banked me for a loss (damn cross cut scratches off balls). I tried to load a crazy cue ball on his opening lag but instead of picking it up and adjusting it like most people he pushed it over, twice and then said, "Is this one of those Crazy Cue Balls?" I tell you he is no fun at all. I had the whole place going to watch him lag that thing. BUSTED! You are a good guy brother. I beat him up on some Crazy 9-Ball (you'll have to ask him).

Mrs. Maniac (she was a defensive pain in the butt. :D ) In one game, I think I had 6 balls on the table and she had just 1, and I was still kicking. She was so great to fill our last spot and shot great. She also has a hell of a stroke. I sure hope she doesn't get any lessons, or I am asking for a spot! She's got a great sense of humor, just like her beloved, Maniac. They are lots of fun. At one point, I ask Maniac why he didn't kiss that ball in and he said, "I am terrible at kisses." I could not let that one go untouched. So, I yelled over to Mrs. Maniac what he said, and she yells back, "He is lying to you!" Man that was damn cute and funny as hell. I'd swear he blushed. But like me, our heads are too shiny to really tell. Maniac is so much fun to play with, you need an extra belt to hold your sides in. Although, as big as I am, a girdle would work better. Let me just say this, if you are going to a party, you want to hang out with these two!

JDM was a class act. He harassed me all day long. That was great. I love getting picked on. We had a great match and were the first 2 to go to the banks. You'll have to ask him, but I think he loves the banks. JDM is just like having a brother playing with you. He ribs you to death, but by golly he means nothing but fun. I really needed to work him over more. I actually think he got the best of me. Can't wait to see you more often when you move down here bro!

Scooter was a real great guy. I didn't get to play against him, but honorable and as nice as they come. He was so cool in fact, I don't think I made wise crack at Scooter all day. How he dodged that, I have not figured out yet. I suppose that just means I owe him a few. Hmmm, due his nickname I did run outside at one point to see if he rode a Vespa over, but no luck.

Chilli66 is a monster. A monster pain in my butt! He beat me the worse than he has ever beat me. I can't wait to load up and get back in the trenches against him. We had such a good time. Thank you so much Kool-Ade for working out the details with me. He is real stand-up guy, well, at least when his foot isn't hurting. This was the best I'd seen old hop-a-long hold up ever. He played great and made sure to teach us some great English sayings. They were priceless.

Run of Century, was looking pretty tired near the end as I was. He does cue repair and builds cues too. He did such a great job on mine and is one of those people that has some great knowledge about the game! I have this gut feeling he will be using those English sayings, far more than one should. ;) He is the whole package. Humor, good player, smart, and just nice enough, you want to beat him every time you play against him. I guess I will have to keep wanting on that last part.

I had a great time! Everyone was as good as people can be. It is easy for me to call all of you my friends! Thanks for making this something we will certainly do again.

Thanks for the recap. Sounds like every one had a great time. Wish I could have been there....SPF+randyg

Well, I'm amazed I'm not sore today after playing so much pool! I hung around to play in the Sunday night tourney (which ended up being 2 events due to some late arrivals) but I must've used up all my good shots during the day!

That's the longest I've played in years but I loved every minute of it! Gotta do that again sometime!

Sounds Fun

Well, I must say that I wish I could have made it. I didn't see that this was happening until just a day or two before and I wasn't able to change my plans. I think it is a great idea and I'm glad it went well. Is this just an annual thing? semi annual? - John

Thanks all

As expected - it was a great event and I really enjoyed my time on and off the table. Some great players and genuinely nice people. By the end of it - I was laughing my ass off at some of the things guys were saying. Still laughing this morning about all those English Sayings!!! Cant wait to defend my title! I'll be practicing my lags - LOL.

Yes, it was a great day of fun. I had a great time meeting everyone and look forward to playing everyone in the future.

However, I still contest that a one-pocket player who "suggests" banks as a tie-breaker is cheating...lol. Just kidding, I had a great time. It was great meeting everyone and I look forward to seeing everyone in the future.

Thanks to Donovan, et. al. for getting us all together! It was a blast!

The round-robin format was very demanding and almost everyone got to shoot with everyone else. Everyone was very friendly, just as I had expected. Playing pool with nice people is always fun!

Those tables at Volcano's are fast! :p

Run the Century is definitely the best player, so I am glad he ended up getting the trophy (thanks for springing for that Donovan)!

JDM played very well and adjusted to the playing conditions better than anyone else in my opinion. He's definitely a shooter and class act!

Maniac and Mrs. Maniac were a pleasure to meet. I think they had a lot of fun and were very social and all smiles! :p

Chilli66 was great to talk with and probably got a few more British jokes than he wanted! He's a monster on the table and should have knocked me out of the running but had a freak scratch on making his out ball in our banks game.

Scooter and I didn't get to chance to talk much, but I'm hoping that if we do this again we'll get a chance to chat!

Donovan was as usual his jovial self! He killed me in 8-ball, but I had his number in 9-ball. Banks gave me the edge, but it was sweet revenge after he tried to get me with his crazy cueball! :p

I had a great time meeting everyone and we'll have to do this again at some point. Next time I hope we can get more people and maybe do a double-elimination tournament instead of a round-robin one! Many thanks to everyone who attended and the pleasure was mine!

Rofl...

I looked at the 1st picture and said to myself, 'There's trouble if I ever saw it'.

I looked at the 2nd picture and thought, 'Those guys need a drink'.

I looked at the 3rd picture and thought, 'Yep, they've all had drink and everyone is in trouble now'

Sounds like a nice time, you'all had.

Sorry I missed this one...

Sorry I missed this one, I just had too much to get done before leaving for Vegas this week.

This is definitely something to consider doing again, maybe in the fall?

My "Hoover" trophy sure does look good sittin' up on my mantel in the pool room  ! Of course, I've got it turned around backwards so nobody can see that I got it for being the "worst" player in the tourney ;) !

But did you figure out where to put the batteries?:D

To everyone asking if we'll do it again I'd say hell yes! Perhaps in the fall would be a good time, although I'd do it again tomorrow if I could!

Again!

I'd be glad to be a part of it every 3...4...6 months. I'm up for it. Of course, I really wish I could have gone to the first, but it sounds like alot of fun. Of course, you never know what we could do as a group for pool around the area either....(that's the thinking of a former collegiate billiards team president kicking in....)but hey, as long as we can get together and have fun, that's great!!!

I just wanted to remind you that I had a pretty good shot at the hoover trophy myself...:o)

It was a blast meeting everyone. All were extremely nice people and everyone could shoot, which made it an enjoyable experience.

Unfortunately, I did not get to Play Scooter, Run the Century or Chili. Maybe next time. I did watch some of their matches though and all shoot great. But even better than that, they were extremely sociable and nice people.

I did get to play Donovan, Samiel, Maniac and Mrs. Maniac, though. All were phenomenal people to meet and play.

I am really hoping that we can get together again in the near future and go at it again...

Next time I am going to be spending the weekend, or actually get moved down to Dallas, I will send everyone a PM. Even if the entire group can't get together, I wouldn't mind getting together with someone and spending a few hours playing a few games.

I might even have to learn one-pocket...

Brother, you were not the worst player, you just took the biggest hit this time around. That's all. Please! I know our match was real tight. I was sweatin' it for sure!

Although when the Trophy reads:

AZBillards Fort Worth Get Together
Almost 2nd To Last

How can you not sport such wit for all to see? :D

AND HELL YEAH, JDM let us know when you are back. I can usually only play during the day time on weekdays anyway. So holla' anytime.

Wow, was it only in May that we did this? It seems like so long ago!

Is anyone up for another one of these? I'd love to try to get together again!

How about playing on some 9-foot tables this time? I nominate the new Diamond Billiards room in Dallas if people are willing to make the trek out there!

Post/PM a reply and let me know if this is something you guys in DFW are interested in!
