D/FW Az'ers get together w/pics

Lowell and Big Mike came from the losers side and doubled dipped Chen and Phillip for the win.

Thanks for the info. Wish I could've hung around to see that.

Big props to Lowell and Mike for toughing it through to win against Chen and Phillip! Lowell and Mike made some tough outs and killer safes to come out on top. Scotch Doubles always has double the pressure!

So... are we on for Nov. 3 for the DFW AZ get-together? That's my date of choice since I'm going to take the Friday off beforehand! :p

Vote on any other date if you like. I'd just love to solidify a date.

Hey fellas, what's up? I like this idea of another AZ get-together, but quite frankly, I'm a little concerned about playing on 9-footers. With my eyesight, I can barely see the far end of a 9-footer. Y'all are tryin' to set 'ol Maniac up for another "Hoover Trophy", aren't y'all? Seriously, I only play on 9-footers once or twice a YEAR, but IMO, the game of pocket billiards should be played on tables of this size. I don't mind gettin' my clock cleaned again as I'm just in it for the fun. Let's "Git-er-Done"!!!

Donovan, I too have lost some weight. 30 pounds since early June. I am walking 4 to 5 miles three to five times a week. The walking has gotten me into better shape, which is helping at the pool table (stamina is way better). Congrats on your weight loss. Excellent!!!!

Ade, how have you been? Is your leg/foot all healed up? I keep meaning to show up at Volcano's some Wednesday night, but I just get caught up in other things. I'll try to get up there someday.

Maniac

Hey Tony, good to hear from you. What's with everyone losing weight? LOL, my wife & I keep saying we're gonna start doing some serious walking but we have yet to start. The foot/leg is pretty good at the moment, I'm on a pill a day to keep the problem away! I am suffering from a cricked neck though, can't bloody win!

It'd be good to see you up at Volcano's, I'm there every Wednesday for league & now Thursday as well. I'm a glutton for punishment!!:D

As for the get-together, if you're worried about 9 footers I have a telescope you can borrow!!!;)

Thanks everyone for the great comments! :o

My November is shot working every weekend. December 1st would be the only Saturday I could make if not in OCT. I don't mind waiting until then, but maybe you guys want to have it sooner than that. It is Ok with me if you do.

Samiel, We will get this under way. It just may take more discussion on the date.

Maniac, Nice loss to you too buddy. I can't wait to see you.

chilli66, I have to ask too bro.....how is hobbling going on? LOL Maybe I will see you tonight bro.

Bigtruck, Thanks. Yeah, like it was mentioned, that is Volcano's. I will be there for a short time tonight taking photos for their website. volcanoshurst.com They have changed alot around and need better pictures.

Cuaba, Man, I don't know...that might be a tough thing to pull off. I would be a ton of fun I am sure. Yeah those were the lazy daze! :)

Man Donovan, I'd hate to have you miss out since you hosted the first one!

Any Sat. in Oct. is good for me... the question is, how is it for everyone else? There are a lot of things going on in Oct.

Oct. 6 - Houston Open
Oct. 13 - Fast Eddie's (Lafayette, LA) & Waco $50 9-ball
Oct. 20 - Fast Eddie's (Waco)
Oct. 27 - Diamond's 9-ball

I'd say the best bet would be a Sunday if people would be willing instead of a Saturday. Say Sunday Oct. 14 or Sunday Oct. 28.

How does that sound?

I could do OCT 14th. I also have a couple of 2X Polo's I will be giving away. One of them is Talisman Billiards and the other is Predator; they are both black with gold stitching. I have a crazy idea for format for a small tournament....Any of you guys ever play Swede? I think that would be a really fun game. I suppose I will have to write up the rules.

Saturday was just a suggestion, not a definite. If Sundays are better for everyone else than we should try to do it on a Sunday.

Sunday's are ok for me but not a definite.

Rules for SWEDE!

The rules for SWEDE!

# OF PLAYERS:
2 or 3 players. (We will use three and maybe go to 2 players for the finals.)

OBJECT:
3-person game: to make 2 numbered balls in their corresponding pocket and then make the 7 ball in the same pocket as your last numbered ball.
2-person game: to make 3 numbered balls in their corresponding pocket and then make the 7 ball in the same pocket as your last numbered ball.

SETUP:
The pockets are numbered as such:
4 o---o 3
.. | ... |
5 o .. o 2
.. | ... |
6 o---o 1

You rack the first 7 numbered balls like this and then just fill the rest of them in anywhere:
....1
...oo
..o7o
.o25o
o364o

ORDER OF SHOOTERS:
We will use dice and roll for the order of the three players. The highest roll will go first, next highest goes second, you get the idea. You do this after every game.

TO START:
The first person breaks and must drive at least 4 object balls to a rail. If he makes a legal break and pockets a ball he stays at the table.

PLAYING:
At anytime during the game, if any stripes or the 8-ball are pocketed or knocked off the table, they stay down. If balls 1-7 are pocketed in the wrong pocket or knocked off the table they get spotted. Likewise, if you already have 2 balls pocketed in their correct pockets in a 3-person game (or 3 balls in a 2-person game) and you make another correct ball in the correct pocket, it gets spotted. If more than one ball is to be spotted at one time, they will go in numbered order. Spotting balls is done like in straight pool.

You basically shoot until you miss. All scratches are ball in the kitchen. (You must shoot across the head string before contacting an object ball, when getting "ball in the kitchen.") It is cue ball fouls only and it is only loss of turn. There is no rule on driving an object ball to a rail. You either make a ball and keep shooting or your turn is over.

HOW TO WIN:
The goal is to get 2 numbered balls in their corresponding pocket. Then to win the game you must make the 7 ball in the last pocket that you made your last correct numbered ball in.

---------------------------
This is the best 3-person game I have ever played. I really think you will enjoy it. It does become quite addicting. Let me know if you have any questions...I never wrote these rules out before, so I have no idea what I forgot to mention.

So....Sunday October 14th. at 1pm until at least 7pm...

How is this sounding to everyone? As soon as we get 5 people with an OK I will call and let Diamond Billiards know. I really do need an approximate, "How Many " to be courteous, so I may have to guess at this point. Alos let me know if you are planning on eating there. Thanks.

October 14th Weekend

Hate to be a party pooper, but there are 2 tournaments that will still be running on Sunday. The Dallas league players could potentially be out of it due to the end of season tournament for SWEL. The Hunter tour is also in action that weekend in Houston, & that is where I will most likely be.

If you do this one, are you gonna consider another one in November?

My "Hoover" trophy sure does look good sittin' up on my mantel in the pool room  ! Of course, I've got it turned around backwards so nobody can see that I got it for being the "worst" player in the tourney ;) !

Maniac

Does it have a pool player at the top? Or a little vacuum cleaner? LOL

In one of our leagues we had a Horses Ass award, and it had a horse at the top of it. It was for the worst player. We quit doing that cause we didn't want to hurt people's feelings. The goal is to make everyone a better player not tear them down. :D

I will be at Diamonds tomorrow and I will talk to Dean or whomever to see what's going on, but Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 sounds good to me. I'd prefer to start a little earlier if possible (11:00am) if just to meet people and hang out... maybe have a mini-tournament starting around 1:30pm-2:00pm for those that can't make it there that early.

If there is enough interest in doing another one Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, then I'd be happy to host one since I know Donovan won't be able to make it at that time.

Post here (or maybe we should start a new thread?) if you're going to make Oct. 14 and/or want to make Nov. 3.

Donovan,
Great to see you online again. Sorry I won't make the GTG in TX. Hope to see you at BOM one of these days. Let me know when you'll be back.

The GTG I would really like to see would be you, me, Hoser, Stinky, Tuna, Ogi, and the rest of the WIU Union pool bums.

Do you think we could make that happen?

I know a poolplayer who's nickname is Hoser (actually, he's my husband). What is WIU and what is Hoser's real name that you mention above? I wonder if they are the same person?!

Melinda

Regarding SWEDE... just a quick question... as long as you pocket a ball, you can keep shooting? Even if I pocket a solid into the wrong pocket? Only in a 3-person game does the ball get spotted? What if I'm in a 2-person game and I make balls 1-6 in their correct pockets but miss the 7-ball?

BTW, I'll be at Volcano's tonight to play in their Scotch Doubles tournament if anyone wants to come by!

Melinda, his name is Rick. LOL At least I think it was...wow...Hoser is all we ever called him. WIU=Western Illinois University. Man, I miss the late 80's. If it is He spotted me the 5-ball once...it was the only spot I could beat him with. It took me three years to get him to give it up. If this is you hubby, tell him I still have that old Meucci that I bought with the money. ;)
