Dale Perry "Handmade" Cues

Dale Perry's eBay listings state "I made and signed this cue in my Florida cue shop." and "All DP Cues are Handmade by Dale Perry In the USA.". I thought people might like to know that when I inquired about getting a cue of the same quality made with a specific color combination in mind I received an eBay message back stating the following.

"The cues on ebay are that price because Dale do not have to track the cue though out the shop. The build what they want. If you a cues built for you they start at $500.00 and go up. You may want to look to the web site.
Thank you

The awful grammar aside this would indicate that the cues are not handmade by Dale individually and he has at least one other person working outside of his supervision. This isn't to say that it's not quality work and really won't impact me purchasing one at some point but I thought it was interesting enough to share.

i would think it impossible for one person to make that many cues every week. I'm sure he has a few helpers, at least........

It has been stated before in this forum, that DPerry have people helping / learning. i concur with Danutz, to sell 25 cues per week on Ebay, you can do that cues alone.

Dale is local to me. There is only him and one helper the few times I have been in his shop.

25 cues per week isn't a whole lot of cues if you compare it to the production per week by Joss and Meucci Cues.

This is really nothing new at all. Dale burned his bridges years ago when he started selling his cue on ebay. Up until that point he had cues selling for $1000 $2000, but I suspect that it did not pay the bills so he started selling all these cues on eBay.

The problem is that collectors who had bought his cues were now screwed and could never recover anything near what they paid. The same thing happened to dealers and store owners who sold retail merchandise because over night the market completely crashed where his cue were concerned.

To my knowledge no one got any advance notice that he was going to change the way he sold his cues. I know there are allot of people who got screwed by Dale and I doubt anyone will forget that soon.

Outside of that the cue sold on eBay are decent for the money, but as a builder myself I don't know how he can be making much money when you consider the cost of materials and the labor involved. Now I don't know if his cues are built in the USA or not, I hope he is not importing cues and then selling them as his own that would really suck.

Its america he should sell for what he wants to sell for if people are buying cues as investments they need to understand there is only so much liquidity in the market and dale obviously decided to go deep on the supply side he still has demad just at a much lower price. I feel bad for people who got stuck but i expect this can happen with most mid tier makers falling out of favor or ramping up production

The atrocious grammar and broken English doesn't inspire confidence in the assumption of an American made product. I didn't know there was any question to where the cues are made, I assumed Florida as stated on his webpage, but maybe he does the true custom orders here and imports the eBay cues.

Find quite a few AZ posters are using their "smart phones" to post. One common thread is the "atrocious" grammar. Must be a result of the two thumbs method of typing. My excuse is, was taught to type by the US Army!
