Dallas Pool Players - an old pic from Clicks

Among all the negatives and slides sent to me by Mike Haines for inclusion in our pool photo galleries on Smugmug ( http://billporter.smugmug.com/ ), there were quite a few taken at a Clicks pool hall in Dallas. Not sure of the date, but I'm thinking it might have been back around the late 1980s. Recognize anyone in this shot?

Man It Would Be Awesome For Someone To Name These Players. I Hav Moved Back To Dallas And Its Pretty Cool To See Some Of The Old Faces Still Shooting Straight As Arrows

did I see marietta Strickland with her hand on the right shoulder of ``slow & shaky`` Dick Lane?

Yeah, the only one I recognize is Dick. He's a straight pool master. That's the Clicks on Abrams I believe. I used to hang at the Alpha location.

Yep, not many players in this group

At the far left of the picture is a guy named Eddie Philips. He might be of shortstop status, but Dick Lane is the only strong player in the group to my knowledge.

I remember when I first saw Dick. I was sitting with McChesney. He knew that I was interested in straight pool and Dick came. McChesney said, "That's Dick Lane, he will run 200 balls on you." I looked around but all I saw was this slightly built, nerdy looking guy with glasses. That was Dick! LOL... I was captivated by his straight pool acumen.

If you're talking about Orietta Strickland, that's not her.

First time I saw Dick Lane was in the finals of the 1 pocket event at Galaxy Billiards in San Antonio in 1992?? or so.

He ran two racks of 1p, one from his break and one from his opponent's IIRC. Then it was his break and he made a ball on the break and ran 7, played safe and then made the last ball to win the tourney. I didn't play 1p at the time, so it looked like a pretty easy game to me :) Now I have a little more appreciation for what he did.

Cheers,
RC
