Dan Gallegos Custom

I had my friend Dan Gallegos, from Long Beach,
build me this solid shooter from a prime dowel
of bird's eye maple I saw sitting on his shelf.
His son made the Dwell pattern butt sleeve,
but the rest of the cue was built by Dan.
They were very pleased I chose to have a family
collaboration of talents used for my custom.

Over the years, he had the benefit of learning from
many master cue builders; Schrager being most influential to my knowledge.
Dan's been considered one of the local sleeping giants
of cue making in Los Angeles for decades.

The cue feels like a neutral balance, with a softer but extremely solid hit. Great feedback from tip to handle.
Everybody that picks the cue up says it plays like they've had it for years. Just a naturally good feel to the hit.

19.5 oz. 19.5" balance point.
Ivorine 3 joint for durability, and real ivory ferrules
on all 3 old growth shafts. 11.5, 12.4, and 13mm.
Original old stock medium Moori tips.
99.9 real silver rings just because.
Smooth leather wrap.
Also, had him put my name on it

Thanks cueman!
His son was a wiz with math and used to
draw his blue prints of a desired design
on a round surface; like an empty soda bottle.
He'd scale it down once design was complete.
The coolest part about it is the extreme attention
to detail.
All the maple pieces are following the original
grain of the wood.
Plus, the butt sleeve is spliced in a very unique way.
The design is not comprised of inlays.
It's actually a complicated series of splicing.
Took allot of planning without the use of a computer
or cnc.

Wow. Very cool.

It's done with splicing?

I posted a thread a while back looking for unique splices.

I would say this qualifies.

nice

Never heard of him but it looks like he makes a great cue, something different and original
it's refreshing to see that.

Just to give you a better idea of the spliced butt sleeve
sections that were made by Dan's son, John.
The planning and execution are something I'd imagine takes more patience and attention
than most could muster.
The 1st image is a design, with the rough dowel produced and ready for install.
The others are earlier practice examples.
All of the grain flows in the same pattern it did
when it was a single piece of wood.
Pretty cool stuff you don't see often these days.
