Dark spots on the shaft?

This is about pool cues. Do spots on your shaft annoy you when playing? I played with a pretty beat up cue the other day. I didnt even noticed the spots until I was done. How can this annoy so many people? When I get down on my shot, the last thing I'm worried about is how the shaft looks. I see my shot, line it up, get down, and take it. Am I doing something wrong (not lining up my shots correctly?) if it doesn't annoy me? I'm not going to change my stance even if I am. I like my stance and like not having any problems with distractions.

Yes, they bother a lot of people, including myself. I am very picky about my shafts - they don't have to be white, but any shark lines in the top 6-10" near the ferrule will bother me. There's nothing worse than getting down on your warmup strokes and seeing a dark line that causes your eyes to wander to the visual distraction, ESPECIALLY on a crucial shot during the rack.

It doesn't matter why it bothers so many, it just does including me. If I played with an old beat up shaft another ding or mineral mark would not be a big deal. However I don't play with junk so sugar spots or mineral lines in a clear shaft really stand out. It has nothing to do with your alignment.

But I generally play with a pretty clean cue....

I guess I just don't see my shaft when I get down, I'm too focused on what's going on at the tip. (God...Pool sounds so F***ing dirty all the time).

I'm also one of the guys that are bothered with a dark spot on their shaft. Mine is about 4 inches from the ferrule. If I see it while aiming at my shot I just turn the cue and problem solved!
