I feel like the entire AZB pool world is hanging on by a thread while we are praying for a good outcome for Darren. There is so much love for him here. This is a good community!
I agree, I know I keep checking for updates on him with everyone. Merry Christmas to you & your wife Jay!

Sarcasm? Or sincerity? Hard to tell.

But that's exactly what I was thinking at the time. I hold no malice toward the medical staff. They did save my life.

But that was a hell of a thing to hear while you are laying in an emergency room dying.
I was being completely sincere! I'm glad you made it. You are right, close calls give us a reason to live and to be grateful for each day. I hope you and yours have a Blessed Merry Christmas.

Not sure of the accuracy of this, but Mary Kenniston posted on FB that Darren was clinically"dead" for 20 minutes before he was resuscitated/induced into a coma. That sounds very bad for his long-term prognosis.
My friend I mentioned who was in an induced coma under very similar circumstances for 3 weeks had the same thing happen. Every time they went to awake him up his heart would stop. He was fitted with a pace maker and a difibulator (I can’t spell). Anyways all that took roughly 3 weeks. He “died” many times before his heart function came back to normal. That was 3.5 years ago-he’s fine now and was 10 years older and 100 pounds heavier than Darren.

It’s a scary thing for sure. But it’s a process. The length of the induced coma is the dangerous part. His heart it’s assumed will come right in time. Hopefully sooner than later.

My friend had to learn to walk again-that took a month longer in hospital. His heart was the “least of his problems” when he woke up-his words not mine. And again he’s just fine now.

Let’s hope that the coma part is over with sooner than later and the healing can begin.

That’s the only insight I have on this type of thing.

Does some or a lot of that depend on how much of the heart muscle/tissue was damaged? I don't know anything about it.

Idk

My friends heart didn’t sustain much damage-it was triggered by some blockages and an arrhythmia. Which was good new for his case. Blockages cause more heart muscle damage than an arrhythmia from my experience. I have an arrhythmia and zero blockages-that’s my personal experience. I watch it closely and take medication.

The induced coma was because when they went to close him up they couldn’t get his heart beat right. He was opened up for 4-5 days on bypass the whole time-I’ll ask him and verify that. I know he was opened up that long-I didn’t know that was possible.

The coma was induced to keep his body slowed down and I’d guess not requiring as much oxygen and to keep him stable as possible until his heart rhythm came right. 3 weeks later they got to the point that they could wake him up.

That was something I didn’t know existed. I only learned of this 3.5 years ago. Sounds very similar to Darren’s situation. They tried many times to wake up my friend-for obvious reasons. For 3 weeks he was out in the coma. I never gave up on him, but wow that a long 3 weeks. The rehab after was the hard part he said.

This is the only experience I have with this. Most people I know get bypasses or stints and carry on with some recovery. This is a different thing for sure. It’s not good. But my friend told me at the place he was it in Texas it happens.

That’s what I know from seeing this once before. Idk about Darren specifically I hope the outcome for him is the same. He not over weight and young. That’s good news for him.

"Massive heart attack" is called by doctors when 25% or more of heart muscle is damaged. Thats something what modern medicine can handle if other circumstances are favourable. But i fear the fact that Darren was about 20mins in clinical death on monday. The most important question is if cpr was properly done right away till medical assistance arrived as brain damage can occur as soon as 5-6 mins into cardiac arrest without cpr🙄 Thats the essential part..

I’m not a medical doctor, but I don’t think you can go much longer than 5 minutes without oxygen

Just to say it...been thinking about ya Darren. You're a hell of a guy that I'm really pulling for. Waaaay too young for this sorta predicament. Save that for the ol timers that can't shoot worth a lick (jk). You still got game for us to see and your YT channel is just coming alive. Come back brother we need ya to tell another story. Godspeed pal

I'm glad to hear Darren is on the mend modern medicine is doing things that not long ago were nearly impossible to even dream of and they're common now .

Merry Christmas to one and all in the Appleton family and friends !
