So better players make more spot shots. No offense but is this really a surprise?

It is fine to prefer that format. But recognize that is not an apples-to-apples trade; it almost doubles the match time. So you either need a bigger facility with more tables or to extend the number of days with direct expense to the players or cut down the size of the field. Accommodating it probably means smaller purse.I still say spot shots have no place in pro pool. A better format would be two races to 5 with a tiebreaker set to 5 as needed.

Or just have a race to nine and be done with it…Okay, tiebreaker race to 3.
Blasphemy! LOL!Or just have a race to nine and be done with it…
i don't know why that would be a concern, Fargorate doesn't measure skill ability. It measures ability to compete. The spot shot misses are pressure based, the same as playing a game. It doesn't measure skill to make the shot, it measures the skill to make the shot under the pressure of competition. No offense taken...
It's not a surprise. But it does allay a few potential concerns.
The first is the possibility this shot is a task/skill that is basically mastered at a certain skill level and then levels off from there. That might make it not so good for distinguishing a 750 from an 800, for example. The second potential concern is that it may go up with skill but at a different rate than what Fargo Ratings do for games.
The good news is like with Fargo Ratings for games, a 50-point gap seems to mean about the same thing at all skill levels. So, for instance, a player can about spot a 50-points-lower opponent 2 makes in a race to 7, just like with games. This is the point David in FL is making.
FargoRate does a good job of measuring the ability to compete, especially at the higher skill levels where manipulation of ability just doesn’t happen. There are many skills involved in winning and overall ability. Banking, speed control, safeties, kicking, etc, etc, and yes, spot shots.i don't know why that would be a concern, Fargorate doesn't measure skill ability. It measures ability to compete. Now, I would imagine that the correlation between skill under pressure and skill ability averages about .85 which is a strong correlation, but still not a true measure of skill ability.

I think the MatchRoom format sucks. Race to 4, hell, I might even win one![]()
