Day One at Turning Stone

I'm getting a few pictures for sure, which I won't be able to post up until I return home.

However, Mike Howerton is in the house, and he's brought along with him a couple of helpes. Holly Ryan is going to be taking some pictures of the players for AzBilliards, and I'm sure he will definitely post up some soon.

BTW, I saw a beautiful hand-made beaded Native American purse that I have just got to have. The only problem is that the price is $425. I love this purse, but can't see justifying paying that kind of dough. I'm still thinking about getting it, though. If Keith has a good run at the dice table, I'm getting me that purse.

The players began their matches at 10:00 a.m.

I'm going to take my camera, and I'd be happy to share my photos. I'll have a firewire card reader (compactflash) and a PowerBook there capable of burning CDs if you want to get some of your pictures off your cards on Saturday or Sunday.

Keith is elated to have won his first match, but I think what really made his tournament the best was receiving a brand-new shaft from Michael Webb, which Keith believes is the best thing to come along his way in quite a long time. Custom-made to his specs, it's a 4.2 ouncer, 12-7/5 shaft, a nice long professional taper, with a hard Morri tip. Mike said this is a one-of-a-kind shaft made with some very special wood which will hold up to Keith's liking.

Tell Keith congratulations and if that new shaft is anything like one of Mike's I recently hit with, he's gonna love it.

Kim Davenport gave it his all and ended up going hill-hill with Ryan McCreesh. Kim made it to the hill, only needing one game for the win. McCreesh kept fighting back, making the 9-ball on the break, to bring the score closer, and then along came the tie-breaker, one game for the win, with Ryan breaking. Kim racked and reracked and reracked and reracked at McCreesh's insistence, but the veteran never let it bother him and tried his best to accommodate Ryan's crying. Finally, after about 10 minues of this racking ritual, Ryan submitted and went with Kim's rack. He broke, missed, and Davenport made a beautiful run-out for the win.

Good for Kim. Class act.
