Ohio has produced lots of pool players.There is a nice article in Fridays Dayton Daily News about Deeno Gournaris who passed away recently.

Deeno was a local legend for decades. He was a jeweler who played jam up pool and liked to gamble. Only a top player or strong road man could beat him and he beat a lot more of them than he lost too.
I knew Deeno from when I was a kid so he must have been well into his 80's. I'd love to see that article if possible. Thanks

Jake Spitler taught me too. He was an old time player from the Greenleaf era and he knew everybody. He was the only one who would take me aside and try to wise me up. He showed me how to play basic Three Cushions and Snooker too. He felt you needed a background in all games to be a player. He would get mad at me when I blew my allowance to one of the local hustlers (maybe $10) but I had a "Jones" to play. I couldn't stand to sit and watch someone else playing.

Deeno was always the second best player in Dayton. No one could beat George Rood or would even try. George would play anyone and they didn't have to like it. He was world class, like Lassiter's speed. But like Deeno, he had a good job and didn't travel anymore, except to dog shows. He was a breeder and a judge.
