DCC 2.010 Trip report

Was there any truth the the Rumor of a New Computer Program being use to make the BY BACK DRAW/SECONMD CHANCE DRAW go smoother?

So one who was there last Friday also mentioned many vendors stayedaway this years, as compaired to past years.

I think he's good kid too and has a bright future ahead in the pool world, though I hope he's investing an equal or greater portion of his energy into studying hard and getting a good education.

I'm not sure I agree with the "negativity" part. I just wrote what I saw during one short match -- maybe he can move, but just choose not too during ours. But all I saw was him shooting at a white flag. (He does run the balls well: he ran eight and out his second shot, the case game. And, as I said before, he's highly accurate on a lot of tough shots.) Thinking back on it again, IMO, he probably played the right strategy against me, because I don't think he could move with me (at least now :-) and it was probably better for him to play more aggressive. IIRC, the one game where we did get into some moving, he broke, and after about five shots, it looked like I had broken the balls, and I won that one pretty easily. The rest, about him not suffering enough yet, was meant tongue-in-cheek.

In any case, no disrespect was intended. He's already tough to play and as he gains seasoning, will probably throttle back a bit on the shooting on his own, and put a little more balance into his game. Then we'll all have to hide :-)

No problem at all Lou. I certainly realize that YEARS of experience add much to one's game. And, you are probably right, that he HAD to play that way against someone who has that experience and moves as well as you do. I just thought him reading that he couldn't move at all might bring down a couple of notches what might have been a very proud win for him. I think this response (post) will let him see you respect his shooting ability, and that with the right practice, a more balanced attack will make him a REALLY strong player.....that's all I thought was lacking from the original post.

Again, good reading on your take from the DCC!!!

Good post, as usual, Lou! I thought I would get to go this year but it didn't happen. Hopefully, next year.

Thanks for the compliment.

You just have to get there, at least once, for at least a couple of days. It's tremendous event worth the trip.

I think they've been using the computer program for a few years now. It crashed (badly) last year. I guess it went smoother, but at least on Monday and Tuesday, there were extended periods, mid-day, when nothing seemed to be happening. So there was still a lot of waiting around, IMO.

As to the vendor situation, I do think there were significantly fewer vendors. And compared to the bazaar-like atmosphere of the main hallway at the Ex West, the setup at the Horseshoe is probably way less than ideal, though at least this year, the majority of the vendors were closer in towards the entrance to the main tournament room. The couple of guys I talked to said sales, by mid-week, were not so good.

I see your point, perhaps I painted with too broad a brush in my initial post.

So, Brandon, if you see this; I think you're on the road to becoming a great player. Maybe at your age they all look like hangers and it's tough not to pull the trigger on a lot of shots. But believe me, shooting isn't always the way to go. A great safety, that brings your opponent to their knees can be every bit as satisfying as a great offensive shot. And when you get to the point of passing on the shot, to go for the crushing defensive move, you'll know you've arrived as a 1pocket player.

Very nice to see meet you Lou, sorry you had to run into one of the young buzzsaws in the one hole event. Glad you had a good time up there and can't wait to start preparing for next year!!

Good to meet you too, Neil. But it wasn't a buzz saw... more like a burr grinder :-)

The computer program at this years DCC was much improved over the past. We had minimal problems and were able to display the tournament schedule in the main room, out in the lobby, in the hotel rooms on channel 15, and on the internet.

The comment about people standing around is due to the reduced numbers of players at this years event. We had 42 tables to run the tournament on. On the days where only one tournament was being played we had a lot of available tables relative to the total number of matches that needed to be played.

When this occurred, we made more tables available for rental to allow players to match up.
